Chinatown markets

My friend and I will soon be launching a little venture into the world of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. We will be growing indoors (most likely) in a big city in America. The Chinatown here is full of markets, as well as another strip of vendors near the downtown area. Wondering if anyone sells to Chinese vendors and what kinds of mushrooms they prefer? Also, is the medicinal market worth attempting or should we stick to gourmet?
We also plan to look for local restaurants and cafes in need of good, fresh mushies.
cheers to all!

I don't have too much info for you, but it is traditionally known as a very tough market. China has ages old grading standards that are much different from ours. For dried medicinals, the vibe I got was that they thought I could never get it to them as cheaply as they could have it flown in from China due to labor costs. They may be very interested in fresh mushrooms, but you have to be educated in working with any cultural group in the ways that business is transacted and how to work together.

The half dozen or so Asian Markets I've been in usually shipped in their mushrooms from China. However, at school, the owner of the Asian market wanted my mushrooms, but we never got to brokering a deal. I might go after this lead, since I have other leads in that town, but my suspicion is that they will not like my prices.

I didn't want to say what I've actually been told about selling to the Chinese, but one of my best friends is a fish farmer, and he advised me against going into that market for a variety of reasons...you know, you can never really tell one way or the other with second hand info tho. But his experiences were valid for him. JD
