Crumble & Case vs/ Cake...Better yield???

Well, the other day I saw someone ask the question "would it be better to crumble and case my cake or just fruit it as normal?" I believe I commented on the question, and whoever it was (I can't remember the name) told me to let them know which worked out better. Well, I think from looking at the pictures that is obvious which method delivered the better yield. The casing was two cakes that I crumbled and cased with MGMC, verm, hydrated lime, and gypsum. They were all B+ multi-spore. Both were fruited in a shotgun type FC. These pics are from the first flush only. I did get some good mushrooms from the cakes. However, my two best cakes that I had, didn't yield near as much as the two cakes that I crumbled and cased. I also wanted to post this up for some of the newbs out there to show them that it's not hard to case your substrates, and you might want to give it a try right off the get go. This was my first grow, and I had no problems whatsoever. Let me know if you have any more questions.
This casing is two B+ cakes cased with MGMC, verm, hyd lime, and gyspum

This is just from the first flush
This was a decent pin set for my very first grow
Even all five cakes here (first flush) didn't equal the yield from the two cakes that were cased

thats tight. i agree beginners should try bulk their first time, if they're serious about growin then they'll end up growing in bulk anyway so whats the use learning how to grow off of cakes. i kinda wish i would've trusted myself more with bulk when i started as its really easy and alot more rewarding than cakes.
if u dont mind, how much did you get from the 2 cakes cased? and did you sterilize the casing mix? very good job for your first time man, my first casing ever yielded the same as the cakes but i used coir/verm lol.

Thanks for the compliments guys!!!
Feaster... I used the tapered 1/2pt jars
Butter... I'm not exactly sure what the dry weight was. They should be cracker dry by the time I get home tonight. I'm gonna weigh them later tonight and see what I got dry from the first flush. But, it may be hard to remember what tray those are on because I have a total of five casings on four trays in my dehydrator. They are packed as full as I can get them right now. I even had to lay them on top of each other just to get them all in there. Tonight i've got to finish rehydrating my casings and then put some new casing material in there. And to answer your other question, No, I didn't sterilize the casing material. I did pasteurize it though. However, I did the cheating method of microwaving it for two minutes, then let stand for 10-15, microwaved again for two mintutes, then let stand again for 10-15, and then did it one more time, for a total of three times in the microwave.
However, I did just get through properly pasteurizing my hpoo for my first bulk grow. I'm doing a monotub with wbs spawned to hpoo. I put some of the hpoo into qt sized jars and then pasteurized them in a large kettle and then I did the rest of it in a pillow case in a large kettle. I'm excited to see how my first bulk grow turns out. I looked through the lid last night and I can see the myc on the wbs growing and starting to take off. I've another couple of days or so before I put my casing layer on it. Here's a pic of my monotub setup...

Juris 1,
Nice grow MAN!
You are going to really love using bulk (hpoo).
I have done wbs spawn to hpoo bulk in monotubs and trays in RR style FCs ......
It looks like your conditions in the FCs were IDEAL !
Good luck with the monotubs.

Edit: Rico... I thought it was you that left the rating, but it was actually someone else. Sorry for the confusion!
Rico...Thanks for the kind words and the rating! Yeah, i've been lucky so far since I started this hobby on 8/15. I've got three shotgun FC's and one PMP in progress. However, since i've been doing a good bit lately and really getting into this, i'm thinking of making a nice martha. that way i've only got one grow chamber (so to speak) to really take care of instead of three or four smaller one.
And, here's one more pic of my other three casings that I just harvested the first flush. I've got two more that I need to patch tonight and get into an FC. I just wish my supplies would hurry up and get here so I can make my LC jars with the self healing injector ports and filter discs! I've been doing baby bottle LC's and am just not too pleased with it. I get a good sized cloud of myc, but I think they tend to stall out since there's not much gas exchange happening. I've got 9 new strains on the way from Ralphsters and am ready to start building up my print bank so I can start doing some trading!

fruiting like crazy! you only started not even 2 months ago? doin better than I am lol. and 9 syringes is ALOT lol. i plan on using my Amazon syringe for a year or so unless i dont like the trip (has to be visual) even though i had 4 syringes last time they were all body-high trips more than visual (at least the ecuador, and maybe the B+). I'll never grow Ecuador strain again lol.

Cakes really seem like a pain in the ass to me, compared to bulk substrates, or just casing. Beautiful grow btw.

Thanks! I'm glad I did cakes to start with, as part of my first grow, but I probably won't be doing them again. Unless it's just for shits and giggles some time down the road. I think that casings are actually easier than cakes anyway. Plus, the yield you get is so much better!

There is no comparison, casings will out yield cakes 2:1 if not better...

I'm a greenhorn - and I've been trying to research casing, looks like casing needs to have the right additives - I'm about 9 days into the mycelium -

basically casings are taking cakes..and then adding a few more steps..all of which you should research and usually take time to perfect.

but if you are intelligent you can go straight to casings.
my friend started with cakes and it taught him alot about mycology.

normally i do popcorn, but i did some cakes for fun
well i never did it PF style i spawned them to some coco coir
8 cakes yeild allmost 3 ounces. the 2nd casing is still fruiting
it will only take you an extra week or two of time and it is well worth it. i've never done cakes but they look like a total let down in the yeild department
crumble and case without spawning would not yeild anymore than cakes. you are not adding any nutrition. it would probably yeild less because the cakes is burning nutrition reparing after the crumble and colonizing through the casing layer.
