Woops! I think I found the problem
    #7484145 - 10/04/07 09:13 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I just got off the phone with my growing partner and he just told me something that i didnt know happened. When we initially set up the fruiting process (2 weeks ago) we set the air purifier in backwards. So, this means that for 5 days, the cake was getting no air. He also said that when he tried to move the cake, that it was stuck to the plate. This must mean that for 5 days there was no air getting to the cake causing what water we put in there to dry up. And I havent added and any water to the cakes since the start of the fruiting process two weeks ago. So that cake must have been completely dry for the last two weeks, thus stalling the entire process. Does that sound like I found the problem everybody?

so the air pump has been sucking air out of the FC then, yes this maybe your probllem dunk the cakes for 24 hours and hopefully this will revive everything.

I would say that would be your culprit. Assuming the air purifier is in and moving air about now, you could try to mist it or even go so far as to dunk the cake for 24 hours (but get someone else to confirm this before doing so). Assuming it's all still white and fluffy with no contams you could very well be successful yet. G'luck!

Yes there is a problem but lack of air is not the problem.
Not sure how a cake or anything would dry out w/o airflow.

Did you dunk ffor 24 hours prior?
Did you roll your cake in moist verm?
Did you put a layer of moist verm on the bottom and the top?

Do these three things and fix your air exchange and you should be G2G.

There is no reason to clog up a terrarium with silly pumps and fans, purifiers, etc. Simply use three to five inches of rinsed, and then well drained perlite, and drill a few holes in the sides of the terrarium for air exchange, giving you a perfect environment for fruiting mushrooms. Keep it simple folks.

Even if your air purifier was connected backwards, it would be sucking air out of the terrarium, thus providing air exchange just as if it were connected the other way. At this point, I'd do as suggested already and dunk and roll your cakes and put them back in. Get your humidity up to 95% with constant air exchange and you'll be golden.

i did dunk for 24 hours but I didnt do the moist verm thing. I've never heard of that before. What good does that do?

rolling the cakes in verm helps support a more even pinset but giving a kind of micro climate around the mycelium. U keep the verm moist by spraying and this helps keep humidity where its needed.

This is definatly a good method as i have noticed from my non rolled cakes. I have pins growing from the bottom where there is vermiculite (that was the top of the cake when it was in the jar)

I just remembered that I happen to have some vermiculite that came with my mycogarden. So Im going to redunk it and Im going to roll it in vermiculite. Wish Me Luck, hopefully it will work this time.  :stoner:
