hey all.
so i have my colinsed cake, ive put it in my plastic box with the lid on top, its been going a few days, and i cant get the humidity above 85% am i doing something wrong?
should i ben making the box airtight? extra heat?
also misting, so do i need to do this with PF-CAKES? if so do i have to to mist the cake directly?
sorry for all the questions bit of a n000b

first, make sure that u have enough damp perlite in your FC, u should have between 2-5 inch layer of damp perlite (to damp perlite stick it in a colondor and rinse it alot under the tap, shake to drain excess of and dump in ur chamber)
Fruiting temps are around 74F.
Yes to help humidity mist a few feet above ur FC and let a fine mist drop into ur chamber after u do a FAE. NO do not directly mist ur cakes, this will cause them to bruise, and standing water on cakes can invite contams.
This is all in the teks so read them some more, or search
If u have a lot of holes in ur FC then u could try and cover some of them up.
Also what kind of hygrometer do u have and is it calibrated? Ur hygro meter could be wrong.

Did you dunk and roll? If you did then you can and should mist the cake directly until you see knots. Otherwise the verm will actually take the water from your cake.
Are you using perlite for humidity? If so how deep is it? Also need to make sure you have holes drilled in the bottom of the fc. The air coming thru the bottom holes helps raise humidity as well.
Another thing I noticed was if I had too many holes in the fc it was hard to maintain a high humidity.

Don't make the box airtight. a loose lid is better than a tight one. As a matter of fact drilling 150-200 holes on all 6 sides of the box is great for FAE and does not affect the RH negatively. Put 5 inches of DAMP-not wet- perlight in the FC. If you do this and the hygrometer is not reading in the upper 90s, then the hygrometer is the problem.
If it is digital, I would trash it. Get an analog and calibrate it. This is experience talking.
Misting, D&R, etc does not affect the RH of the FC very much. This is a perlite or hygrometer fix.
BTW , if you are using perlite, I hope its not sitting in water. DAMP, strained perlite only.
