horse manure cakes

Has anyone ever tried making cakes out of horse manure? I'm trying something new and it seems to be going through the first steps ok I just wanted to know if anyone has ever tried it and had success. I basically took a bunch of manure prepared as if I was making bulk substrate and also added some vermiculite for filler as well as finch seed for added nutrients. I then put into jars filling them about 3/4 full with manure and then I then put a layer of 50/50 as way to sort of precase it. I then added the same thin layer of vermiculite as a regular cake and I did this mostly in pint jars instead of half pints and a couple quart jars. I've used rye before and kind of did the same thing but never added a casing layer first. I'm thinking if I scrape out the layer of vermiculite when it's ready leaving my pre casing and put in a little more casing then wrap in foil they would grow fine right out the jar. Anybody got any feedback!

It's been done many times with poor results. Horse manure is a bulk subsrate, so needs to be used in bulk. That's why large bins are usually filled with it. One pint of manure isn't going to support much growth. RR

What if I made it into bulk substrate after fully colonized, via crumbling up the cakes or cutting them in half or slices and putting them into a big tray and cased them? I have some big bulk substrates going but I have just had alot of trouble getting the manure to colonize since i only have access to oven bags not autoclave bags. I have had about a %40 success rate and I'm trying new ways of colonizing the manure before making making bulk.

Wouldn't the per pint yield be the same for 1 pint as for 10? In theory anyway, the pint does not know that there are no other pints around it, or that there are.
If horse manure is high yielding, it should be high yielding no matter how mush you use.
Am I wrong Roger?
