Hi all. A FOAF of mine has 5 cakes, all KSSS, in the FC since last Monday (9/24/07). Perlite Humidification. They get fanned as follows: 8pm - 2am - 10am. He noticed hyphal knots this monday, after 7 days in FC. Saw his first little pin yesterday (only 1 pin, MANY MANY hyphal knots). No hygrometer, as he lives in an uber-remote area and cannot drive a couple hours to pick one up.
Temps are 75-80 F. 5 cakes in total, the fastest cake has 1 pin, and a few hyphae with darkened tops, and many still white. all very small. the other 4 cakes have knots at the moment. He does not mist them, as per advice i found here for him which suggested to stop misting once you see knots. They were dunked 24 hours prior to going in FC, and are double-end cased. He wants to know if his "timeframe" sounds about right. 7 days to see knots, 8-9 for 1st pin. Is that "Normal." Since they pin in response to the environment he wants to make an environment ideal for them, which is why i ask if this is normal, as if it's not we'll try to find the "hole" in is FC.
I can take and upload pics if that would help. First pin is today, so we except another 10 days or so for mature fungi. sound about right? Any help greatly appreciated. PF TEK was the method PS.

Yeah, depends on what type of mushroom you are growing and what type of cakes. I'm going to assume the good kind of mushies on BRF cakes. In that case, i have heard from many people (including good friends of mine) that say it takes 7 days for first pins. After your first flush, it's much quicker... like 2 days. Just be patient, pretty soon you'll have more than you know what to do with. (I recommend feasting)

Try to fan more often. You will notice faster pinning.

Thanks for the fast replys, will be upping a pic here in about 30 mins, just at his house now taking pics. How often do you recommend he fans? And is 6 hours of light enough?
