The World Has Changed
    #7482676 - 10/03/07 08:46 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I have noticed a change in the world. What happened to the way things used to be ? The stories my parents and grandparents told me of their teenage and adult years where nothing like my own. Nowadays it seems that the majority of people around this age are depressed whether they be strangers in passing or very close friends. Everyone I seem to come into contact with of my generation has experiences some form of frequent depression, so what the fuck has changed ? It seems that our Generation has had no Great war, no Great Depression. Our war is spiritual and Our depression is our lives.

The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls...and Nine...

The more things change the more they stay the same.

But yeah, I think people think material things will make them happy. Most people live in their own private bubble, on their cellphones, watching tv, etc. Anything to take them out of reality.

Thats because their reality is grim and narrow, get a job and support their families. There is nothing wrong with that, its admirable, almost. They will work all their lives working a job they don't enjoy, supporting self entitled little bastards, eventually to piss it away while their dieing and wishing they were young again. Thats how it is. I hope I can do something differently. If I sound like I'm full of shit, its because I am. I am completely aware of my own ignorance.

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for
authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer
rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents,
chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their
legs, and are tyrants over their teachers."
--Socrates (425BCE)

"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."
- Peter the Hermit (1274 CE)

Much has changed, and yet much remains the same.

Reganomics and television. Ive been thinking about this quite a bit on the side, What happened to music? Im still waiting for the next musical revolution...I dont think its gonna happen though. Elvis,The Beatles,Zepplin,Nirvana etc etc. Why hasn't a band or Person exploded among world culture and changed everything yet...

I think it stopped at nirvana.

"I am aware of my own ignorance" Mind If I quote that for my sig?

Radio stations took over the musical scene, and anything out of their liking isn't going to get out there

Have at it. I'm definitely not the first person to say that. I would like to come back on later and discuss similar topics here.

if children have been getting worse since 400BC then the next generation will be nothing short of a bunch of ankle-biting anti-christs

and robbyberto i just liked the way you worded it.
just remember that no one is aware of the full extent of their ignorance.

Yep. Since every generation at some point berates the younger generation we must be going downhill all the time and by now the world should be filled with almost nothing but evil people.

I think when people get older they just forget how they behaved when they were young themselves.

Yeah, ive kinda regressed into the this minimalist/naturalist frame of mind. i dont want anything to do with the idea of western culture. I work for a corporation that is a complete waste, and when im at work i feel like a caged animal. I hate corporate america and i hate everything this culture has become. If i could do it, i'd move into a log cabin and kill my own food like ted nugent.

And Hakim0777 , havent you heard? Fallout boy is the new musical revolution!
