Words of Wisdom???

This is my first attempt at cultivation. However, it had been about 6 days and i haven't seen any sign of colonization. So you can believe i am starting to get a little worried...
I used the PF tek 5 cake method in half pint jars which i sterolized for 90 min on my stove. I then inoculated the jars by the book then left them in my closet to colonize. the first couple of days i didn't touch them, i left them at room temperature... about 70 F then after 4-5 days I decided to bring a heater into my closet and set the tempeture for a steady 83 F. i am now in the 6th day and I haven't seen any REAL progress. Do i just have to be more patient?
a few things im worried about....
...I only waited about an hour before inoculating the cakes after sterolization
...I used a few more cc's from the syringe then suggested
... the strains i have are Cubensis Amazonian and B+
... I have also been playing around with lighting....
ANY WORDS OF WISDOM...... PLEASE???
here is my setup

I'll give you almost even money that a vast majority of your spores died off from the heat exposure. Even when the jar's feel only slightly warm to the touch the centers of them can still be well over the 140(F) at which most mycelium/spores die.
Considering it's been over six days with no signs of growth I'd be really suspicious of anything that started growing at this point to be a contaminate. 3-6 days you should see something, even if it's only the first tiniest little clusters near your inoculation points.

Hey, I'm a newb to this too, but I recently started my first grow and saw small signs of growth within 4 days using the same tek. I'm guessing the spores might have died from the heat. I think it's best to give them at least 12 hours at room temperature to cool after sterilization. I'd hang in there for a bit longer though just in case.

I use to add the spores and then boil the cakes....
It takes about 2-3hour's for a jar to cool down and add another hour for the contents to cool off, just because the jars cool to the touch doesn't mean the sub isnt still steaming hot.
I'm going with what mycocurious said about the substrate still being to hot but also you said you were playing around with a light source?
You do know that germination and growth of myc is done in complete darkness...
Good luck, take care.

It might have to do with the fact that the first days of colonization were well below ideal temperature. Keep it at a good temperature and see if anything shows up.

Room temperature is fine. I'd wait another week or so before starting over.

That statement is true for some species but not for p. cubensis...
---- Vegetative mycelium has no light requirements, one way or the other. I keep mine on a set of shelves that receives full light from the window or interior lighting one way or the other for at least 12-16 hours a day. It doesn't matter when they're in jars colonizing in a purely vegetative mode. Nor is light a trigger for entering the fruiting stage of it's life-cycle either.
It is a pinning requirement only, and pinning, technically happens after the mycelium has begun the fruiting stage.
So, while you have to know the parameters and requirements of the species and strain your dealing with, in this case I can tell you that light has nothing to do with how efficiently the mycelium colonizes.
