Why do Salvia?

I am just wondering what draws you all to sal? I'm not putting it down at all, and I am in fact thinking of trying it sometime soon.
I was just wondering, does it have the power to reline your spiritual, philosophical or even intellectual perceptions for the long term? And is this why you do it? Or is it simply for the experience of being rocketed in and out of multiverses at 9,454,456,963,435,521,456 light years/second? Because either is cool for me, but I would prefer to take some knowledge from the trip instead of just giggling, seeing insane visuals, etc.
Thanks.

I never take drugs just to "see shit" or "get fucked up". I haven't tried salvia, but I really want to. And I want to because I want to know what else is out there.
Edit: In other words I respect your reasoning and it is similar to mine.

The web of interconnectedness between the people of the human culture becomes tangible. The walls of individualism break down and the realization that the people you share this planet with are all the same consciousness (individually shaped, of course, by each person's life experiences) becomes a reality. I call it getting back to the 'Human Tribe' feel. But, salvia experiences are extremely varied and that account is only describes 2 of my trips.
It should be noted however, that it seems that all four times I've done salvia seem to be pointing in the same direction.
Very intense, unique come up. Very fast in reference to exhalation (hold smoke as long as you can). Do it with someone you trust initially because it can be overwhelming for a lot of people.

Salvia is pretty sweet, but i think i would rather spend money on bud instead.
I've tried salvia 2 times already. The first time (15x), my small living room at night in the city, began to look like a forest at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Green was everywhere, dining room chairs turned into trees, and my head felt like a balloon. It was more like a level 4 trip, but on a nos type of ride.
The second time was ok, but not as intense, which was wierd because the salvia was supposedly more potent (30x). My head just got all ballooney and a couldn't shake the overwhelming urge to turn around and flip upside down. It was like my left side was contracting muscles, and my right side just wanted to spin around.
Both times they only lasted about 30 seconds to a minute. Hits taken from a decent bong, and held in for as long as i could. I've seen people acting like complete asses on this stuff for like 10 minutes, but never me or anyone i know.
I guess to summarize, i don't personally see the draw to it. I'd rather buy bud since it's cheaper ($20/g of good dank vs. $50/g for some 50x Salvia) or shrooms for the same reason with the benifit of a longer experience. Plus, the bud high lasts longer than 30 seconds, or even 10 minutes for that matter. If you get stoned then sit in a dark room and think about the shit you want to think about (mind expansion, being an organism on a moldy, musty rock, spinning around at thousands of miles an hour, around a flaming ball of gas, moving at 500K miles per hour closer to the next nearest galaxy, made of strings and membranes with infinite posibilities) then you'll get the idea, with less color.
Also, the salvia is so dry, if you are a big hit taker, you might burn your entire gram (or half of it), but cough your lungs out and not be able to hold any in because sometimes the smoke is harsh.
If you haven't tried it, then do so. It's interesting. but I wouldn't make it a habit or anything because it's expensive (unless you grow) and it doesn't last that long. BOO, Yeay for shrooms, they are better!!
I've also heard of people chewing it like tobacco. Apparently this makes it last longer but it takes longer to take effect. On the potency, i'm not sure.
Good luck!

did salvia several times and very thankful that i did. before that, i mostly relied on smoking the reefer, which proved to be quite a tool in my relaxing autumn nights of writing poetry and pondering philosophy. blah.
but i gave salvia a try, and i was skyrocketed into a dimension with unlimited possibilities and i felt all my social standards and structures break down and i was shown a new side of things that i never seen before. and all the while, i could almost feel her there, smothering me, and i couldn't help but be amazed, and say, "whoa, what... the fuck... was that."
salvia is something special that you can't find anywhere else.

Yes salvia is definitely very special and very unique. I've done it 3 times and all three times i have been skyrocketed into another dimension that i didn't know could be possible. I personally love it, but it is a little bit expensive to do all the time...just on special ocasions

I can't explain the experience but I feel like it is something amazing. Scary and frightening too, no part is "fun". Everyone needs to see the Salvia People on the other side.

The elves? Never seen them. Do they have any relevance to your life when you're not under its effects?

Not elves, thats Mckenna and his DMT. I see Lady Salvia as abstract patterns and most of the time I see many other abstract patterns of salvia people shaping my world. To answer your question no, they are like a reality check.

So, not to thread jack, but I have a salvia plant growing...do I harvest the leaves similar to MJ? I haven't tried it yet, but I was under the impression I had to do some kind of extraction - now it sounds like it is just dried and smoked? Sorry for the dumb questions - just new to the subject! Thanks - back to original post!

there are no real elves. but when you see people, you see them without limits. they are not real people... they're just matter and anything that they say or do makes completely no sense at all and is completely irrelevant to the void that you have been enveloped by.
salvia definently has a spooky feel to it. it makes the hairs stand on the back of my neck when i do it, and then it does it again later when i think about it. creeepy.

yeah it does have a creepy feel. I like salvia though, its got a nice short duration that doesn't fuck you over like other psych's
the only thing that I dont like about it is the pulling sensations.
question though; if you smoke enough extract to break through, are you still plagued by the salvia-gravity sensations?

everything to me becomes irrelevant and my mind tries to focus in and grasp ahold of the concept of time and reality but it just keeps slipping, just keeps slipping away from me...

No. Not once they pull you out of this world anyway.
Even though physical feelings can become so powerful that they are expressed as a part of your trip in a very weird way, the overall experience of a break through makes them nearly irrelevant.
A true breakthrough on salvia will blow anything you expect out of this world. Words can't do it justice.
One of the most fascinating things about salvia is the utter truthful and real feeling of it. It can really turn your concept of reality upside down.

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with salvia. I think it fucked me over much more than it ever helped me with anything.
I think the problem is that it really does, more than anything else, feel real. Like you aren't just experiencing yourself (like acid or shrooms) but that you are actually going somewhere. Maybe just becasue everything is bizarre, more bizarre than anything I have ever experienced. My biggest problem with this is that I can't really explain my experiences in relation to myself in any sort of "this is what my brain was doing" or "this is the part of me I saw" sort of way. And I didn't really like the places I went, there was always this very intense creepy, almost sinister feeling to them, and the things that I "met" there.
Salvia also gives me the worst flashbacks, after I do it I get them for months. They aren't like my acid or shroom flash backs (which tend to be just becoming anxious for a period of time and feeling weird) they are super quick and are set off by weird things (noises, any sensation really) and usually are just me becoming extremely disoriented for a literally a second and then I kinda snap back but it is always like this snap shot of salvia space. It's not the best feeling.
All that being said, Im still kinda glad I did it, it truly is amazing and is responsible for some of the most terrifically bizarre and gorgeously complex experiences I have ever had, but I feel like while I was doing it it definitely had a negative effect on my overall mental health, and I really only did it 7 or 8 times over a six month period, and three of those where one night...
I still have like a 1/8 of it sitting on my desk...
oh btw, chewing plain leaves was awesome, although nowhere near the intensity of the smoked experience it was very pleasant and smooth, awesome to meditate with, and always leaves me feeling very good.

Love this thread. I've seriously been considering salvia myself, I've done mush and lsd, before but never salvia. I would love to do salvia in a strictly spiritual context. The times I have tried it I've never broken through, but I remember being very uncomfortably "wieghed" down, like in concrete, body temp going up and heart pounding. Now is this common to every salvia experience, or is it because I almost broke through but didn't? Anyone help?
