I CAN'T BELIEVE the mayor goes on to defend the cop saying that because the suspect said some "acrimonious" words to the cop, you have to take that into account.
WTF! I mean WTF!! That mayor should be impeached and the cop jailed for assault, just like I would be if I punched someone... twice! Gezuz!

When it comes down to it.. the sad sad truth is that the police will do what they want, when they want, were they want. if you have something to say about it (and your not in a large group or work for the press), you can take it up with their mace... or club.. or 9mm. freedoms are a illusion these days. lol, your only free if you do what the government wants you to do.

> When it comes down to it.. the sad sad truth is that the police will do what they want, when they want, were they want.
I've dealt with a lot of police over the years, both on the good side and the bad side... and not once has a cop ever been an ass to me. I have seen cops abuse their powers with friends of mine, once or twice, but to be fair, my friends were being pretty rude. I'm not defending all police, as there are certainly a lot of bad apples in the bunch, but at the same time it is a mistake to classify all cops as bad.
> I CAN'T BELIEVE the mayor goes on to defend the cop saying that because the suspect said some "acrimonious" words to the cop, you have to take that into account.
Agree completely. I watched the video pretty closely, and there was nothing physical done by the guy in handcuffs to warrant such behavior from the cop. The Mayor basically said, "Hey, if you mouth off to a cop while in custody, expect to get the beating you deserve." If the guy in cuffs had done the same thing to the cop, he would be facing felony charges for assault on a police officer. There is obviously a problem, and it starts with the Mayor...

You make a good point about dealing with police. No matter what you think they got the power in that moment and so being calm and polite can only work to your benefit. The idea is to get your ass home in one piece and not make things worse.
As far as that cop goes maybe he should have to publicly apologise to that guy and then the guy gets two free shots at him.

I don't know that the cop deserves to loose a job or not, but I do know what would happen to one of us if we punched a cop. Why should it be different for a cop that punches one of us? Skin color, disrespectful language, or getting caught during a theft are not excuses for the cops behavior. It is up to a jury to decide if the guy is guilty or not and a judge to decide the appropriate punishment, NOT the cop.
However, the bigger problem is the Mayor. He basically said that cops have the right to beat people that commit crimes. I find such sentiment to be very frightening coming from somebody in his position of authority.
> You make a good point about dealing with police.
I've always claimed that once the police arrive the game is lost and all that is left is damage control.
> the guy gets two free shots at him.
Eye for an eye justice usually involves triple damages... six free shots. In return, the cop should be allowed to bad mouth the guy for a while before getting hit.
