Grain-to-Grain

Ok I PCed 9 grain jars and inoculated all of them with about 3cc. Only 2 of them colonized, so I want to see if it was just some dead spores in the other 7 or if they are just bad jars. And instead of using up all my spores I figured I'd try grain-to-grain but my main question with this is
- How much of the colonized grain should I put in the jar I am trying to colonize? The jar size is quart.
- If the jars do not colonize can I pick out the colonized grain or is it just a loss?

If there are no contams, then the jars are good, and the spores were bad, or slow, some jars take longer.
Use about a heaping tbsp for G2G transfers.
And yes, you can transfer only the colonized grains, but it is better to wait for 100% colonization before opening the jars.

No, you won't be able to pick out the colonized grains, and I have absolutely no idea why CC would tell you you could. I'd definitely recommend G2Ging those bad boys, though honestly I'd just make new grain jars. 50 cents worth of material for a lot less effort.
Picking through the jar won't work. If mycelium isn't growing, there's either a very strong contamination, or the mycelium is dead. Former means you'll transfer the contamination with it, latter means...well, it's dead.

What? I said do a grain to grain, never anything about picking out individual grains, where did that come from?
He meant if 1/2 the jar colonizes, can I use that half for G2G. Why couldn't you do that?
I said wait for 100% colonization before using it for G2G, but you can use only what is colonized, although it is not advised, but if your tek is sterile, what difference would exposed grains in the first jar make when you are dumping the G2G on exposed grain anyway?

I have tried G2G with jars not 100% done and have had mixed results. Some do great while others don't.
