Spore Prints VS. Spore Syringe

This is not to spark a huge debate but as a old school shroom grower plus having great success some may agree and disagree with what I haft to say. Over the years I have used my spores from just a spore print from a index card either made by me or from a certian spore vendor(I will not say because Im not a spammer) and having tried the spore syringe a few times, I have found that the syringe can run you into some trouble for example(a contaminated spore solution)which I have found over the years to be a problem and even to this day seems to have this problem still.I am not saying to you all(DO NOT USE SPORE SRYINGES)Im just saying the method I have used for years and years that works! Building a simple glove box to do this very simple tek has always given me great results over the years(I always throw in the years thing because its just that YEARS!of trial and error). Building A Simple Glove Box<><><><> Take a descent size box(not a jumbo huge ass box lol!)and cut the top box flaps off.On the side of the box cut two holes big enough to fit your hand and arm in BUT no bigger than that.Take clear plastic wrap cover the top of the box and tape it(make shure it is stretched enough that you can see into the box. THATS IT! YOUR DONE... Note:Once you have made your box it can be used over and over agian. Method Of Using Your Box<><><><> First before you use your box take a paper towel and spray it with lysol(YES LYSOL and NO it will not harm your spore transfer)wipe the inside of your box with the paper towel and let stand for about 10mins.Then wipe the outside of the jars with the halfway dried lysol paper towel and place them inside of the glove box. What your doing here is making shure that as much microbes as possible will not mess with your inoculation process, sounds like alot to do but really once you have it down its very simple. Before you open your jars make shure fans, windows, and even the door are closed, trust me little draft as much as possible is your friend(but the glove box will help with that also).I forgot to add the spore scraper youll need that.Take a paper clip unfold it use a hammer to smash the end of it flat and there a spore scraper(before using it burn the edge of it with a lighter or stove let it cool and place it in your glove box).TAKE YOUR SWEET TIME!OPEN ONE JAR AT A TIME!scrape just alittle spore dust from the print into the jar and close it(but not to tight)repeat until done.Place the jars in a dark and warm place about 75'-85'degrees but the best would be about 80 to 85 degrees but dont stress over it to much.I have seen growth start at about 3-4 days but it depends on the factors. Agian I am old school but I cannot stress on how good this method has worked for me over the years, if you are having trouble with growing give this a try it worked for me and I am shure if you do it right it will work for you.(It does not hurt to try something different right?) Comments(good or bad)and Questions always welcome!!! thanks and take care... Note:This method only works by one using the proper substrate plus using your pressure cooker or (boiling your jars,,, ill talk about that another time) before you begin the inoculation process.

For others, make sure that you don't have the dry vermiculite layer for this method to PF tek users

Oh I understand and have used this method - it works fine. I was saying, when preparing flour and vermiculite jars as in the PFTek you add a dry layer of vermiculite on top. This layer of vermiculite would prevent spores added through this method from germinating.

And I will throw this in,alot of people will ask what is the best kind of flour to use, what will the mycellum gorw crazy on and my answer is ORGANIC RYE FLOUR. This is what I have used for along time it is alot more forgiving than most think but supplies a great deal of food to the base. (This is just my opinion)

what mix did you use with your rye flour there? I haven't done cakes in a couple years (didn't feel like finding more verm, normally use grass seed) but RR's videos got me to try it but I bought rye flour.
I wasn't sure what ratios to use but I found this one somewhere on here (I've modified how many jars itll make)
3 cups fine vermiculite 1 cup water 1 cup rye flour
I put these in widemouth pints
it sounds kind of dry to me now that I think of it. It was just barely wet when I loaded it into the jars.

As long as it is moist(just alittle damp to the touch)your fine. This is the thing to, you can make up your own mixture as far as the verm and rye flour go,its just the water issue not to much but not enough either just either test it out for yourself or copy another mixture from this site, I say this all the time(TRIAL AND ERROR)its the best way to learn.
