What is it with wags and plants?

I'm a big fan of bonsais and have been to see a few of the famous ones when there on display. There worth tens of thousands for some of the great ones. I don't grow them myself But might if I ever get the money to get an old one.

I have 2 that both produce really tiny fruit once a year around thanksgiving time. one produces these tangerine like fruits and the other produces limes. :-] They are both 13 years old.

the cost of nice mature ones is far too much to even tempt me to buy... and im too impatient to grow them from a small size

I used to have 2 store bought ones (from a real bonsai store, not that cheap crap you see at Walmart) and one I collected from outdoors. I trained the outdoor tree over the course of 2 or 3 years to shrink the leaves and fill out into a miniature broom style. I ended up losing him after not overwintering properly. The other two I lost from neglect. I'm starting to get back into it now.

I have a few books but my real find was from a guy on Craigslist a couple years ago that had a collection of International Bonsai Journals and Golden State Bonsai Federation bi-monthly newsletters from about 1980 to 1987. It has kept me occupied and is an incredible source of information. The Int. Bonsai stuff features one type of tree per quarter and will give you detailed step by steps for training one from seed.

When my friends from Japan came to visit a couple months ago I happily showed them my bonsai. I thought they would be like "cool" but instead they looked at me like I was crazy and sed "I thought only really old men with nothing to do kept bonsai?!"-heh
If you want a bonsai you can keep indoors more than a couple days at a time I suggest Ficus! They take much less care than most bonsai. JRM's look awesome especially when trained into bonsai, but they can't stay inside for very long and need ALOT of attention. I had 2 very nice Japanese maples being trained into bonsai that died when I left them in my friends care while my wife and I went to Seattle for a month.
Bonsai are great tho, and if you would like a source for affordable nice specimens P.M. me, North America's largest bonsai farm is just minutes from my house.

i used to really be into bonsai, more than anythign else....like uare said its fucking expensive!  when i moved to asia i dropped that hobby....saved a lot of money since lol.

although very common and worth nothing my favourites were ficus bonsai...so fast to see very cool looking results!  litle root sensitive but all around pretty good bonsai.  i also like fruit trees over otehrs

i swear royer, you start posting pics and i get back into it...my wife will have a word or two for you

anyway, what you got growing right now?  you like cold or warm types?
