i think they pretty much nailed it. not alot of hysteria, they didn't overdo the "drug" factor, just the facts, it is powerful, dangerous, unpredictable, and although not everyone dies or has a train wreck, if you fuck around with it, you or one of your friends is very likely to wind up dead.
though, i think it would be cute if they did a news show about the dangers of ignorance... and used videos of kids on datura. "look at these boys... they are so ignorant, they can't talk, their ignorance led them to eat jimsonweed and now they are passing around an imaginary joint in the police lockup, later, they will forget this happened and blame a plant for their ignorance. snowballing into full-blown morons."
still, we all make mistakes don't we
i think there should be a campaign that doesn't tell kids nit to try drugs, but rather, LEARN about them, from unbiased and reputable places/people. Abstinence is best, but a little knowledge can save your live.

A mother who thought they might have to face lady Datura one day....
I wonder HOW that kid died?
Naked highway crossing?
Cliff diving?
Or from being staight up poisoned?
I would not wish a death by Datura on my worst enemys.

just goes to show that the people who do datura are either:
A. Uninformed about it or B. Desperate to get fucked up

I know a few select people who actually take it for the right reasons...
I've taken it, but I can't say I'm one of them...
I felt it left an evil Solanaceae stain on my soul...
Even tho I did it 20+ times(mostly smoking it)...
I would never touch the stuff ever again....
And I will not cultivate or consume any plants in the Solanaceaegenus.

Why would you not want to cultivate it? Because you are afraid someone might run into it and fuck himself up? Angle trumpets are really pretty IMO, who would have thought it will make you go so insane?

I can respect people who have tried it for the right reasons even if it is a devastating drug. I think people who abuse mushrooms, lsd, or anything for that matter is just as bad as someone who abuses Datura, most people just find it worse due to the effects. These drugs are beautiful substances, not just a bunch of crap to get messed up on, be respectful to them and they will respect you in return.

They are really pretty...but they scare the shit out of me!
Brugmansia intoxication is awful!
It can also be absorbed topically...which I really don't like...
Plus it pisses off the Caapi, Cacti and Mushroom spirits...
They don't play on the same Field as the Nightshade family does, and they don't really like them...(maybe they are afraid of them, too?)
Ever seen a Solanaceae hallucination? It's real...no seriously...It's real...
It's nothing like mushrooms or anything Else...The hallucination is real as real can be....
You can touch it, feel it, talk to it, everything.
Scary shit the family Nightshade.

I will add one comment to the above post- I am glad I have experienced a Brugmansia intoxication, but never wish to again.

I don't believe that solanaceae 'piss' off mushrooms or any other tryptamine... actually, shamans that are known to use peyote and ayahuasca regularly also typically partake in the usage of tropane alkaloids, primarily tobacco, but many times using brugmansia and other solanaceae's in their ayahuasca admixtures. Most tropanes bring one to a point where they are encountering death while still alive... they bridge over into the death experience without physically dying... this aids shamans in learning to view and gain knowledge from the 'spirit world'. The only reason they have a bad rep. is that they have an extremely intolerant attitude towards recreational users, and more so, those that possess any kind of fear, especially death. When one can confront the allies with knowledge, purpose, intent, and more importantly, fearlessly, there is little to worry about. There is a reason these plants have been revered by native cultures for a long time... I doubt many natives were out to 'get high' or 'fucked up' either. That had reasons for doing what they did which served them, or else they wouldn't partake... naturally... if something wasn't useful, in some way, it wouldn't be used.

I know nothing about chemistry but is there a way you can extract the exact chemical in jimson weed that causes it's effects without extracting it's poisonous element or are they the same..?

I agree...Great post
But I am afiad of death...
And to me Nightshade plants give off evil vibs...
Tobacco is the only nightshade family member which I ever partake in...but it most often just makes me feel sick...

im fairly sure that the chemical is that same thing that kills you. I could be wrong, but Atropine is the main player in the plant.
