stopping downloads?

Is there any way to simply just turn off downloads using the internet? i dont want anyone downloading anythign anymore...we jsut lsot our computer cause the fucking kids are retarded..arg.

Best way I can think of is to get a slow connection, such as dialup. It won't stop the downloads, but it will make them painfully slow; what used to take ten minutes now takes ten hours. You will still be able to download emails and browse the web, but things like youtube will be very slow.

What kind of operating system are you running? Windows Vista has built in parental controls which can also allow you to block downloading.

Which takes all of a few minutes for most kids to defeat...

well i still want to download stuff a dial up i cannot set to on/off lol.
i am using XP and have DSL. These cannot beat it in 4 minutes cause they dont know english! s it is more than enough, how would i do this? i just want to be able to "turn off" all downloads so they cant...but be able to turn it on again when there is something we need to download.
i would give them a beating, but then my wife would give me one....the day will come when i am hme alone with them

i would sugest a read only file system. then when you are ready to download something, pop in a thumb drive.

i know a little about what a port is...but how do i block it and which ones? i read something along the lines of port 20/21 for ftp and thats as much as i got.

Its going to be quite difficult if you arnt computer savy. I would limit their access via your router. Personally, I would block all access to the internet except for only preapproved sites that I allow from my router.

yup thats the sort of thing i want. i suggested nto letting them play anymore, but they baby face my wife and that doesn't go far....any married/hitched man must know what i mean lol.
hw do i block it at my router? really sorry i am so stupid...i am able to learn computer stuff somewhat easily but i have not clue where to start, aside from router.
