Poocake
    #7479277 - 10/02/07 11:16 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

So i've done it. i mixed up some poo cakes. lmao
i saw where someone said to try a poo cake for something exotic
and i was inspired

i used Kow brand composted cow manure
some organic BRF
and some good ol' vermiculite

i can't give the exact measurements since i did this completely by eye, but i will say the mix was probably
25%poo,15%BRF,60%Vermiculite

i didn't read any teks on this, nor have i heard much about it

i plan to noc up one jar with orissa india multi-spore, which i haven't even been able to get to germinate on PF cake before
and the second jar with amazon

what i did exactly;
i got a big bowl and 2 pint jars ready
i took a pint jar and scooped up some cow poo to fill it just barely past half full then dumped that into the bowl,
then i filled the same jar with BRF until it was just past a quarter full and dumped this into the bowl as well
then i took an entire jar full of vermiculite and saturated it to the "moistness" i was looking for
which for this particular experiment i desired slightly drier than usual
then i added this to bowl and mixed it really well with a fork

then i filled two jars with the mix up to the last half inch which i filled with vermiculite

then i put a tyvek filter on each jar and finished preparing as usual

now they are in the PC and i plan to innoc in the morning after they've cooled well

i feel pretty confident in this, i think this will be a strong adaptation to the PFtek to make a successful orissa india cake

i'm doing the other with amazon, incase the orissa india doesn't take again

ooo that's cool man

i started reading some of the teks and some of the other threads about poocakes after posting this
and it seems there are alot of different ways to do these things

i figured the BRF should be used for added nutrients and to hold the cake togethor
i don't see any need for any kind of seed >.>

would it be effective to fill pint size jars with straight pasteurized poo with a verm filter and innoc? (assuming sterile conditions)
not for use as a cake, but possibly an EZ way to make spawn for bulk?
like if that worked, it would make things so much simpler for bulk growers

bulk growers will always prefer grain spawn to manure spawn.
one of the reasons is the number of kernels = more points of inoculation.
but in this case of a poo cake, i suppose pf cake rules apply here too, grind the poo cake and you'll have enough points of inoculation.

as for filling pasteurized poo and verm into a jar...sure, it'd probably work...
but if you go that route, id suggest you step it up and get some spawn bags and fill that with poo.

yeah
the spawn bags are what i was thinking about when i asked about the jars

a poocake would yeild more innoc points than a grain jar
crushed cakes take it from a few hundred innoc points to thousands of innoc points

Manure has FAR less food for mycelium than brown rice flour or grains. That's why manure is a bulk substrate, not a spawn. Using it in jars only diluted the brf mix. It will likely fruit, but performance will be less than what you'd get with pure brf.

why doesn't everyone mix in BRF with their poo substrates then?

oO no one informed me that poo had less nutrients, since the debate is that poo grown mushies are bigger and more potent, i assumed that poo was the better substrate

at the least, orissa india will probably take on this cake
whereas i haven't been able to get it to with any other kind of cake, so far.
