After I noc-up a jar properly mixed with dextrose and xtra light dry malt extract and distilled water:
WHEN should I agitate with a magnetic stirrer?
Right after inoculation? or after some mycelium has visually established?
quick question, thanks in advance

I am pretty sure you agitate to break up mycelium so it grows from multiple points. I have always waited until I saw growth to agitate.

I always wait 3 days minimum before my first stir. Only stir the solution for 5-10 seconds on high. You will never need more than that on a daily basis. Your liquid culture is ready for use when the mycelia mass constitutes 40-50% of the liquid volume.

Good to know. I have 4 successful LC's, and let them stir for 30min every day after the first signs of mycelia. I stopped at about 50%. That was a waste! Man I love magnetic toy kits...

well i have no high/low setting, i made one myself and didn't bother with a dimmer switch to control it.
When it's on a vortex forms, but it's dinky, only like a quarter inch maybe.
And I thought people run them all the time when they start? (speaking of running on a lower speed constantly)

I start agitating when I see a bit of visible myc, but I'm sure a couple days after inoculation (when theres at least some visible myc) would be fine
