Few Questions...
    #7477799 - 10/02/07 03:21 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Hey there,

I've been lurking these forums for a while, gathering as much information as possible, but am still in the dark on some things.

1. Would it be better to have a larger surface area when fruiting? Would this lower the amount of flushes?

2. I have an idea for a tek, but don't know if its been published/if it would work. It is for a fruiting chamber.

The chamber:
Have a plastic tub with clear top
A fishtank light placed 1 foot above bin
Have 2 air stones with minimal water at the bottom to keep humidity
Have a gravel guard(like in fish tanks when using undergravel filtration)
Have a computer fan placed in the side of the bin running for 10 minutes every 3 hours or so to keep air exchange

Does this sound like a good idea?

Thanks in advance

a larger surface area will produce more mushrooms per flush, usually.
If you are talking about using a larger surface area with less substrate depth, then yes, you will be taking away from the later flushes.
2" substrate depth is great for casings. If you can expand the surface area while maintaining a good substrate depth, go ahead. The problem with this is you're putting all of your eggs in one basket. If a contamination happens, you are usually out of luck.
