Wrong again. When he was in the jungle he made a new trail to the latrine. :satansmoking:

McKenna was both, just as every human having a life experience is both. The fact that he had more balls then most makes him attractive as a role model.

TMac was a great guy if spreading the use of psychedelics to a broader swath of the population is something you value, because he is probably responsible for thousands of people deciding to step into the psychedelic landscape for the first time.  Like he said, he was here to tell people it's okay, it's safe to seek out these states of mind.

I, for one, found him extremely compelling as I started to experiment with psychedelics, and even though his ideas were really far out there they gave me at least some kind of framework to work with when having a lot of these reality-shattering trips, which many of my friends who were also experimenting did not have.

Like I said, it's only if you value a more widespread use of psychedelics among our population that McKenna really has any value, because aside from that he did not really offer much in the way of practical integration of the psychedelic experience.

And you can't say for sure that he wasn't a trail blazer until 2013 rolls around...

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

McKenna was a great writer...but a less than great philosopher.

--------------------
"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

McKenna: Apes ate shrooms, had more sex, grew a larger cranium and learned to speak.

OC: Modern Man ate shrooms, had less sex, learned to speak gibberish and posted on P&S about telepathic communication with their dog.
