Heres the thing I have a 64 quart sterlite transparent container with transparent lid, was going to colonize some WBS and pasteurize some cow manure ( I'm having to avoid the filter patch bags) my plan then would be to mix this together in the tub to about a depth of 4 to 5 inches, with duct tape wraped around the bottom 5 to 6 inches. cover with lid and set in the dark until it looks like the surface is colonized, at which point i was planning on the 50/50+ casing tek of about an inch to an inch and a half, does this sound like a winner to you? any advice? and another question is about the holes i commonly see in the sides of the mono tubs and stuffed with polyfill it is my understanding these are placed above the casing layer or about halfway up the side of the tub? one on all four sides? and should these holes be present while I'm waiting for the spawn/sub to colonize or could i simply tape some tyvek over them at this point and when its time to case remove the tyvek and install the polyfill? thanks for the help

Sounds like you pretty much have it down. Make your holes about an inch or so higher than your casing layer. The mushrooms will grow up and they can sometimes get caught up in the polyfill. You can go with the tyvek over the hole while it colonizes method if you like, I just leave the polyfill in the full time.

cool for some reason i thought it had to be sealed while colonizing , oh yea nice avatar lol, this should substain its own humidity right as long as i got the sub to field capacity?

.you want to put a black plastic liner down underneath the wbs/hpoo . 2 purposes 1 to limit side pinning in a clear tub 2 to be able to lift the whole substrate out late for dunking
put the layer of WBS down, then cover with your hpoo to a level of about 5 inches

I covered the bottom holes with some plastic sandwich bags 2 purposes 1substrate doesn't need any FAE just some gas exchange 2 you can peek through the clear plastic with a flashlight to see if its 100% colonized
.
I did leave the polyfill in the 2 top holes for a bit of air exchange
.

See i was planning on putting duck tape around the bottom to stop side pinning and read where rr said you could dunk a mono tub by simply placing it in a bathtub and leave the water run slowly over night , but i was wondering how the fuck i would get all the water out that built up in the tub lol

Didnt RR have like... 4800 holes in his tub? including the bottoms. there's your draining solution right there.
Drill holes on the bottom as well

you are confusing a shotgun style perlite FC as opposed to a Monotub..
these are two totally diffrent kinds of growing tubs!!

oh that dude had what i was talking about confused with the perlite chamber? I tried that and it sucked with pf cakes because half the fuckers grew down to the reflection from the perlite instead of up towards the light rr said it was common so i said fuck it mono tub, is got to be better and seems like less work i need to find out more about the casing layer thickness though i though it was said somewhere it needed to b a inch for 4 or 5 inches of sub but in a mono it might be different.
