B+ Experimentation

In your experienced opinions, what would be the best substrate for a beginner with B+ spores?
Also, do you think it is too late in the year to try to inoculate poo outside in NW FL?
-------------------- My favorites are weeping willows, which aren't really weeping at all. They're very wispy, witty and will dance in the breeze with you. Nothing like a tree that wants to dance with you. Although it doesn't like its thin limbs being pulled at all, it absolutely LOVES it when you walk through them, letting them gently slide over your face and shoulders. If you're naked, the willow considers it to be sex. It will orgasm on your mind and you will blow dream chunks into outer space. All very fun until your neighbor sees you. -The Joekenorer

Well, when I started my first grow, I did the brf/verm jars with my B+ multi-spores. But, two weeks after I did those 1/2pt jars, I bought some wbs and nocked those up with the same syringes. It was much easier than the brf/verm jars, colonized faster, and I had more substrate, or spawn, to use. I would def recommend giving the grains a try. It's really not that hard. I started my first grow on 8/15 with 12 1/2pt jars and then two weeks later did 12qts of wbs. But, if you do cakes, I would def recommend crumbling and casing them. I've done both, and the cakes that I crumbled have already given me more pins off of one casing (1st flush) as compared to five cakes (on 1st flush). And, the mushrooms look better than they did on the cakes. So, give it a try. You might like it!

I agree 100% with juris1. I've B+ with cakes and casing and I've gotten a better pin set crumbling them up and casing them compared to just doing cakes. But with the grains, it is still up in the air for me because I used rye berries but when pcing them the grains smell alot more then the BRF/verm. But I tried grains and only 2 of my 9 jars colonized. I dont know why.

Good, thanks. I was considering WBS. What mixture did you use? I see a lot of bird seed at the store, but am not quite sure what to go with. I WILL have mush out of season here, if I have to grow it on my OWN poo!

I believe I just used some brand from walmart...Pennington's I think is the name. It's just the main kind they had that has millet, sunflower seads, etc... Then I followed Doc's WBS Tek. If you do that, you'll be golden! GL
