i understand what you mean...
but i'm not sure why you let it get to you
jimi hendrix, terrence mckenna, and many others had/have great things to contribute
i don't see anything wrong with contributing and sharing and giving
no one's worshipping them
or at least, not that i know of

i don't agree with worshipping any of the figures you've mentioned, and i do think some people get a bit to into it and take anything they say as the ultimate truth or something. But if anyone (famous or not) says something thought provoking, i see nothing wrong with someone quoting them on that.

You're just assuming that they worship these people just because they quote them. That's all. You're creating the negativity in your head.

I do keep a database of quotes, but it's mainly stuff I hear that I can resonate with (if that term is too new-edgy, then it's stuff I can relate to). Sometimes I have an epiphany or an insight but I can't express it in less than 1000 words, but this dude comes along - be him a scientist, musician, drug dealer philosopher or whatever - and explains my insight in 1 sentence. In that case I'll keep that quote on hand.

I also like to quote things I find witty or funny, but it doesn't mean I worship the people who say them. Many times I don't know or remember who said a particular quote. I liked "It lasted for a million years and for a split-second. But it's over and now it's your turn." (referring to DMT) before I knew Leary said it.

You happen to be in this 'scene', but go into the rap scene and everyone worships (for example) Tupac, go into the metal scene and they have their own idols, etc. It's not really a big deal. Again, you're creating the negativity in your head. Believe it or not, most of reality is just in your head. This is an example of how you create things out of nothing except assumptions and bias.

Sitting around making judgments or trying to compare things or seeing how things are related is wrong. Not just ethically but because it's ultimately a waste of time. All of us do it all the time, but it's important to realize it's not healthy or productive.

Don't read them over and over. There will always be someone who hasn't read the same quotes over and over. So, let them have a chance to experience it.

am I the only one, who gets kinda pissed off, when reading the same oh so psychedelic quote over and over again,
reading small extracts from trip reports from those oh so psychedelic prominent people like timothy leary, terence mckenna, or musicians like jimi hendrix, syd barrett and jim morrison over and over again
there's this psychedelic clichée, worshipping of people, who were in the end just like you and me and it shouldn't be there
it's quite the opposite of what the psychedelic experience shows you: identifying clichées and fighting against them,
deconditioning the brain
sorry, my english sucks, but i tried it the best, i can

We worship Hendrix and Syd for their music, man. The fact that they used psychedelics is just the medium that helped them reach greatness.

Sure, you can trip out, but if you create fantastic music while you're doing it (or after), then you're as great as Hendrix or Syd.

The psychedelic experience showed me that I need to UNDERSTAND the cliche (the meme, the unit of consciousness), not just identify it. And that I need to see the pattern of our creation of these things, not fight against it.

Is that really what psychedelics have shown you, that we must fight cliches?

McKenna and Leary etc. function very well for what they are. They are well spoken and well written transmissions from the psychedelic world. They did well to describe the kinds of things we experience and they do well to catch the interests of those who may someday replace them.

Sorry you get sick of reading their quotes. Some people read what they have written and realize that someone else has shared their experience and was able to put it into language. This can mean a LOT for someone searching for a context in which to place a mind blowing experience.

Also, a quote doesn't technically "belong" to anyone. All a quote consists of is a vocal representation (using words) of an idea. I don't even know why you're so bent out of shape about someone putting a quote in their signature. What is wrong with someone quoting a few words that they liked, that they can connect to in a deep, meaningful way? I like quotes!
