I'm fuckin' fascinated by war history so I've been glued to DC public TV for the past week.
Between that and Band of Brothers and the History Channel's dogfights all weekend long.. I'm OD'd on war footage

It's really good, I like how they have it set up on an organized timeline.

I'm watching THE GAME.
Seriously, I plan to check that out. Ken Burns does some amazing work.

After hearing about how many civilians died after every battle in the pacific... I'm actually inclined now to think the Bomb was the lesser of two evils (the other being the invasion of the mainland).
I used to question if dropping the bomb was justified... but I never relly knew much about the pacific side of the war. Last night I find out that 200,000 ppl were killed in the battle of Okinawa... and HALF of those were civilians.... and the civilians on the mainland were being taught to attack Americans if they invaded.
Surely millions of Japanese civilians would have died if we hadn't dropped the bomb..

Absolutely, not to mention the whole segment on Iwo Jima. Holy shit.

I wonder if all that footage was actually from the war. I saw Ken Burns on the daily show and he said he found massive amounts of footage never shown before and a lot of it was actually in color..
But I got a buddy who says some of the scenes were probably reinactments..

what I find most interesting is the enemy footage that he was able to splice in.
specifically the german footage from the european theater.
