Just wondering if there is a time frame or when should i see some mycelium growth? i just made some rye jars over the weekend finished them up sunday around 2 pm .. inoculated em and put them in a rubermaid tub except the jars are too tall to put lid on them so i put coffee filter over the tops for extra protection but left them in the rubber maid that sits in another tub filled with water with a fiah tank heater .. the temp is 82 degrees am i good? just wondering when i should see some growth so i know i didnt mess up...

if conditions are right 2-3days
-------------------- "For best results, learn to work with nature rather than against it. Mycelium has an amazing ability to cope with less than optimal conditions, and will often fruit when a grower does everything wrong. However, do everything right and watch your performance go through the roof." RR

You will see signs of growth very soon on the other hand if I got this right you have only coffee filters on the tops of your jars? Microbes(bacteria)can penetrate right past the filter into your jar and destroy your chances for growth, the lids need to be on(not tight)but on.Quote:

by the way, i'm a big fan of "cold"/room-temp incubation. I keep mine in a closet in my house which is typically somewhere in the 73-76(F) range throughout the day.
Temps, up to 80(F), will increase the growth rate of the mycelium but it will also increase the growth rate of any potential contaminates just as - or even more - rapidly as well. Colder temps are often slower for our selected tropical strains but are also often too cold for many contaminates allowing our mycelium to consolidate control of the grains before the contaminations even have a chance to start.
I will say, though, because the mycelium produces it's own heat (a degree or two) internally you typically don't want to have your temp's over 80(F) because temps much higher than that run into the law of dimishing returns and it can actually slow down growth again.
... Bah, it's all too complicated for me, closet shelf is fine for me. And oh yea, they can be out in total light too, no real reason to keep them dark when they're in their vegetative phase.

Don't mistake my tone for a "matter-of-fact" attitude. I'm just presenting what I believe to be correct, until I'm corrected... - How Myco-Curious Prepares Coir & Compost Substrates - How Myco-Curious Builds A Bulk Humidifier - How Myco-Curious Builds An Automated Greenhouse ------------------------------------ figgusfiddus said: Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
