THis mushroom has a conical shape.
Im noit good at this but looks like gills are attached. the stem seems fibrous, and it does stain blue. THis stood out because it does not have the dome shaped cap. its more conical.
this was found on the same pie as copes. same habitat.
sporeprint looks to be black.
BTW im in CFL
PLease help me ID this possible active.

Looks like an old cubensis. But cubensis does not have a "black" spore print.

If you seriously want to know what that is, it will need to be examined microscopically. All that is required is a few dried gills. PM me for details.

I am not very experienced in Identifying mushrooms, but I found some that looked like this and I thought they were copes but they turned out to be Panaeolus cyanescens.

Cure cat told me that copes are cyans and cyans are copes now.. they dont seperate the two into diff species anymore.
And im pretty sure its not a pan. cyan.

yeah copelandia is the old classification, now they are in the same genus as pan subbs. I have found strange gnarly copes before, but they usually do not have a golden cap like that. OH and i think the intense bruising dismisses a possible cubensis.

cody- You misunderstood my post.
"Copes" or "Blue Meanies" are Panaeolus cyanescens (previously Copelandia cyanescens).
The mushroom you found, is an inactive (not psilocin/psilocybin containing) "Cope" look-a-like, known as Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum (previously Panaeolus antillarum).
