Mutants and aborts
    #7473562 - 10/01/07 11:28 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Following the standard pf tek some cakes in the FC have nice looking fruits on them but also aborts and mutants i read it is safe to dry these out and consume but should they be removed as soon as i can tell its a mutant or abort of just let it stay there and harvest the entire cake at the same time? and by abort i mean they looked right at first stopped growing and starting turning a blue/grey and the would be cap darkend but was not rotting so should these be cleaned off the cakes from time to time of just left and harvest everything at once? lots of aborts and mutants with this strain (amazonian) is that typical? thanks

Mutants and aborts are fine to consume.

If they are definatly aborts then remove them before they start to rot. As for the mutants if they are still growing then let them mature.then pick the mutant and take a clone!!!!

Then grow some more mutants. PICS?

well they looked like aborts to me they looked like normal baby shrooms that stopped growing and started turning grey/blue so i picked them and they didnt look rotted, so i can leave the mutants on there? hell one was two shrooms sharing the same cap kinda neat but i figured id pull them because i dont want to waste the nutrients in the cake so i can make prints. why would you want to clone mutants anyway? just wondering

mutants won't waste any nutrients. they will still contain actives. some of us find mutants a novelty. I want to clone 1 and try and grow a batch of mutants.

though it depends on wot caused themutation. if it was genetic then could work but if it was from a chemical then no.

I have seen a few mutant shrooms around here.

You shouldn't eat mutant mushrooms. They alter your DNA and give you super-powers:grin:
