Life works when you choose it.

I think much of the reason folk choose to believe in fairy tales is because they don't want to choose real life. It seems way too harsh and frightening. And at the end death is waiting and the deterioration of the body and maybe suffering to boot. One stands alone looking into the infinite and no one is watching and waiting for you.
I completely understand. But sooner or later real life rears it's head and breaks down and washes away all the castles of sand. So choosing life is the only way to make it work. By choosing you are surrendering to things being messy and uncertain. You really need to be on your toes to make a fun game of this.

This thread is like 95% of the threads you post in here, but it's damn good stuff, so thanks.

It is a good area of focus though Ice, and I'm trying to work with these ideas.
I like what you said about being on your toes. Because it's very, very easy not to be. All it takes is one negative interaction, one slip of the tongue that you start to fret over, or one over-indulgence of any kind, to drive a wedge between yourself and the potential for lively and energetic interaction with reality. This can spiral to the point where you've deluded yourself into thinking you need to be punished for indulging, or where you begin to feel that you have no choice but to continue this pattern of indulgence.
Life works when you choose health and consciousness. The latter seems to start with the simple act of recognizing that you have the potential to think a wide range of thoughts, none of which are representative of who you are, none of which can be harmful if you can let go of them.
Last night I was meditating and all of a sudden an interaction I'd had with someone two nights ago popped up in my head. I realized I was still regretting something I'd said. Suddenly my reality seemed literally distorted, like a switch had been tripped behind my eyelids. I was able to let go of it by coming back to my breathing and dis-identifying with the memory.
Sounds simple, but it's a long process.
Keep up the good work, my brotha.

All true. You really do need to be on your toes. I just keep at it, not giving up, although it often feels impossible and rarely sustained for long. Little by little over the years things begin to look and feel different.

How about an open mind?
In your version of reality, who is God and what role does God play in your life? And who are YOU?

I've given up trying to make this a fun game. Now I'm just trying to make it less miserable for others. It seems hard for me to have fun if nobody else is.

hahaha good luck with it man. I'm trying to give you another perspective on where it leads. I don't mess around with anything that I do. I'm extreme in whatever I do.
Truth demands it if you want to make all the mistakes for yourself.

Maybe I don't know how truth works in revelaing itself. I know what it looks like when I see it though.
Being extremely passionate about finding it seems is certainly required, and willingness to retreat.

This is something I agree on. Truth is in between that desire to discover, and the (necessary?) retreat from that which is discovered. Though experiences that feel like truth should be comforting, they are not comforting to the small mind. (Self-importance is an energy drain.)
To paraphrase a friend: "Seeing the ox is one thing. Taming it may be a life's work."
Maybe I misunderstand what you're trying to convey. More than likely, actually. But I appreciate the fact you're trying to convey it.
Maybe I'm trying not to show my Inner Alarmist. Called my bluff. Thanks.

My "path" has reached its relative destination. Now I can walk with a purpose. I'm not on a journey to ixtlan.
I chose to submit to a force which is unyielding. God. Like I said, I was literally calling God out with my reckless abandonment to finding the truth. A willingness to die to find it. This was necessary for me evidently.
Why God chose to reach out and grab me out of my confusion, I do not know. Perhaps I was allowed to blatantly worship the self and earthly things prior to deliverance so that maybe one person can hear what I am saying.

Death also works when you choose it...and it is very prompt as well.
-------------------- "A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda
