Sectoring and LC correlation- what REALLY causes sectoring: Q
    #7473985 - 10/01/07 01:21 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Hi, I was just wondering. I had been growing some mushrooms with what is termed LC, i.e Liquid Culture, on the website. I have noticed, however, that spawn grown directly from mushroom seeds (i.e, spores), do no exhibit a tendency toward sectoring while mushroom mycelium grown from liquid innoculant, esp the one strain, has shown tendency to sectorize; to note however I was unaware of the liquid culture inoculation technique when I inoculated the other strain, to say I only have this one liquid inoculated strain, and it seems to definitely sectoring. I think this may however be due to the proximity of liquid culture that is less rich in mycelium content (%) and additionally is substrate with less moisture content. To say, there are moisture pockets in the substrate inoculated with the moisture, and *also*, areas that where the liquid culture had a much smaller ratio of mycelium present because it drifts around in the syringe/ inoculation gun. It may be of academic interest, that sectoring might be an occurence displayed by nutrient distribution pattern and moisture distribution via medium osmosis along with gravitational dispersement, and that it may not be a sign of genetic weakness from the strain itself. Much like a child with healthy genetic, getting deficient moisture or nutrients, and therefore grows thin and weak, even with superior genetics, but again, with deficient localized (4D) nutrient intake. Any takes on that?
Regards,
AA.

Sectoring is caused by various strains differentiating in the media. You'll always get a lot of sectoring from multispore inoculation. Most people stir or shake LC, so rarely see it. Later, all but the non-compatible strains will merge into one, via anastomosis.
