So searches for the common contaminants such as trichoderma, aspergillus, etc., and many websites have pictures. There's also some, mostly black and white, in stamets' TMC and GGMM.

You need to get a microbiology atlas. Any college book store should have them. It is just a collection of color photographs of different microbiology specimens. Very handy to have for any micro lab. All the pics will be in the 400x-1000x range.

Try one like this...

Or just google "microbiology atlas" to find some free ones online. It's handy to have a nice hard copy though.

The atlases will have the magnification labeled. Whenever pics aren't labeled you can assume 1000x.

Anyways, you really don't need to know what contaminants look like. Just study healthy myc for awhile and you'll know that anything that looks different is a contam. Morphology is usually pretty obvious under a microscope. Look for things like cell length, width, branching, color, etc. and you'll soon be able to spot all contams easily.

RR didn't you have some pics on your site? the link I found on another thread is just an empty page.

I had a microscopy page a few years ago, but took it down to make room for the DVD pages. You'll find a few contaminant pictures in my gallery.

The truth is, I rarely try to positively ID contaminants anymore. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of species of mold spores floating around at any given moment. Any of them that land on your uncolonized grains have a chance to grow. It really doesn't matter the species of the green stuff on your project-what is important is to recognize it and toss them out as soon as noticed.

You can go to the Boreal website and order pre-made microscope slides with various bacteria and fungi on them. I have a few of their sets. Good luck.
