South Texas Cow Fields - ID
    #7473154 - 10/01/07 08:48 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I found these out by San Antonio (Pleasanton, TX to be exact). These things were everywhere, mostly under trees in cow fields. I'm guessing Copelandia cyanescens, but I am in no way experienced enough to make that judgment.

Habitat: Cow Field, grow in manure.
Cap and Stem: Off-White/Grey
Gills:Dark gray.
Spore: Black (As far as I can tell)

Found this little guy in the same area, don't have any info besides the picture. It turned to mush before I could observe it.

Not that I can see. Not at home right now though, so I'll check later.

Your first mushroom is the inactive Panaeolus cyanescens "Cope" look-a-like, Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum. Do not eat.

Second mushroom is Conocybe albipes or "Dunce Cap", again, do not eat.

No bluing.

Another name for Copes is Blue Meanies.  They don't call them that for nothing.

cody- You misunderstood my post.

"Copes" or "Blue Meanies" are Panaeolus cyanescens (previously Copelandia cyanescens).

The mushroom you found, is an inactive (not psilocin/psilocybin containing) "Cope" look-a-like, known as Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum (previously Panaeolus antillarum).
