Lighting Question

The room is approximately 6'x8'. I'm currently using a 4' fluorescent lamp.
So I have a few questions:
1. Should I get a smaller lamp? 2. If not a smaller lamp, what sort of lights should I use? 3. Should I use one or both lights? 4. How often should I have the lights on in any given 24hours during the growth stage? I've seen from 1 hour on for every 5 hours off(4 hours a day) to 14 hours a day.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Apparently any visible light will work. and you only need a fraction of a second to initiate pinning.
But with that being said, fluorescents will work fine. The one you have will probably suffice.
There is so much... information (going completely different directions, i might add)... out there, in regards to lighting.

Me personally, I use a 3' fluorescent for pinning just to be sure to penetrate the casing layer. I then switch to a much much dimmer light of different sources. Reason being I seem to get larger fruits with less light maybe its just me. 12 hours on 12 hours off, to me its just logical to try to mimic nature as well as one can, minus the suns light spectrum, for shrooms we don't need to try to mimic this.
