haha, and some weigh freedom by the degree of stickiness in their grass

I like your post.
As far as the quote goes. I think this author is referring to the "illusion" of freedom as in running from what you don't like toward the illusion of safety. It's the infantile wish that we could still be safely encased in the womb and not have to make decisions when there is no clarity as to outcome. I do agree with this quote as far as it goes and believe the only freedom we really have is the freedom to surrender to the chaotic flow of life.

Awesome post. The idea of freedom for most humans is tied up with their fear of death rather than the experience of being fully alive.

I am amazed by the way we narrow our awareness through fear.
NiamhNyx: I appreciate your distinctions of the meaning of the word. great post.
Marc Stevens of the No State Project defines freedom (in a physical, societal sense) as :
100% control over your life and property 100% of the time, and zero control over somebody else's. From this perspective government is anti-freedom, period. He adds that freedom does not come in increments. You're either free or you're not.

The sense of freedom is an illusion created by our conscious minds.

Illusion created by our conscious minds? It sounds like a contradiction to me since illusion is the opposite of being aware. Can you maybe explain your point of view?

The only freedom we could ever have is to fully surrender to experience without judgment or attachment. I don't even know if you could call that freedom.
