recovering filter discs after contams

My friend had 6 quart jars get contaminated with what i think is cobweb mold just recently. He narrowed the source down to the LC, and in fact to the specific spore syringe that He used to inoculate those LC's.
He was just wondering if theres any procedure He should follow to get any contaminants off his synthetic filter disc lids. Possibly just PC them? or could he soak them in bleach (dont want to ruin them) Its just that he dosent want contaminated equipment laying around the room that he cultivates in.
As a side what are the most likely cause for a contaminated spore syringe? Original preparation of the syringe is obvious but are there other likely causes? My friend is sure the actual solution was somehow contaminated and he just wants to know if it could have been his mistake or if it must have been caused by the supplier.

It's hard to be 100% sure where the contamination stemmed from without knowing your friends exact methods. I would recommend staying with shroomery sponsors and exercising every possible caution when inoculating.
As far as your filter disks, just clean the lids and jars like you would any other dish (in a bath of hot water and dish soap). They should be fine laying around until you are ready to use them again and PC'ing will ensure that every last trace of mold is done for.

My friend knows that it wasnt the technique because he inoculated 12 jars from 6 different LC's. 3 where Brazilian, one was hawaii, and 2 where chitwan. The 6 brazilian jars where all infected with the same mold and the other 6 where all fine. Even when he had to open the lid off some jars because the needle broke off his syringe, the jars still didnt contaminate. What I realy dont understand is wether a syringe can get contaminated during storage, or if it could possibly get contaminated by being shaken too hard or something like that.

I soak synthetic filter disks in a ten percent bleach solution for fifteen minutes before using. It's probably not necessary though since they'll be pc'd anyway on the next cycle. Bleach does't hurt them. I have hundreds of synthetic filter disks that are well over ten years old and have yet to have a single one fail. RR
