those blue ones are almost identical to the ones i found in the uk last year... i found it hard to capture the colour while they were standing upright, u could see it much better after they were picked and layed down...
i hear they are quite common in scandanavia?

Its the first time i see blue pins. i have found sporeless albino's before but never these blue ones. And i'm from the netherlands not scandinavia btw. We are having an excellent season. Usually uk season starts before ours but perhaps all that rain you had last summer was a little too much?

sorry mate, i thought u were scandanavian
well i think all the rain over this summer has done more damage than good... has probably hindered the development of the mycelium... the summer of 2006 was so damn hot, no rain, and i was already picking in the middle of september... so
nice pics btw

i made some more liberty cap pictures today sun was shining a good day to be outside

This looks like a different variation of ps. semilanceata or another psilocybe, notice the white band along the margin. the stem look different too. (ps strictipes seems a good match)

Awesome photos dude. I can see what you mean regarding the variation. Are they semilanceata or another psilocybe?
The stems in the UK seem to be different from in europe.

Much thinner and smoother.
Nice finds , i wish i could find some blue libs. You get the infertile ones aswell which are white White Semilanceata

Thanks uarewotueat ,hope to see some pics of you soon its about time : )
blacksun i have found one or two sterile libs before but not as white as in your picture. man they look cool about that species in picture 3,4,6,8 and 9 i think they are ps.strictipes and not ps semilanceata they have a sterile lamella edge and the flesh of the cap is thinner then semis the bluing of the stem is about the same and the cap expands more with age and sometimes flattens out entirely
i'd say ps strictipes

what about those liberty really different a bit , is the first time you see the stem so scaly as this, other specimen see to have a smooth surface in the stem , look a bit like pellicullosa.. happy hunting

Nice pics there man I'd love to go hunting for Libs as well but since I live in an urban area, I don't really have the opportunity. Sure, there are a few fields around but all of them are pretty visible and suffer from a good fluctuation of visits by their owners. It really sucks....

you cold try recreational area's at the city's edge or pieces of former farmland bought by the state to develop back to more natural land you have less hassle with farmers then

Where abouts in the UK do you hunt? Yeah i went to my patch this week, nothing there yet, Im starting to think that there is gonna be a small timeframe for this season, so gonna have to go back out in a week or so.

peak district... i will be very concerned if i dont find any tomorrow... 2 weeks ago was the first time ive ever come home empty handed from my spots, in 7 years of picking there...
with it being high altitude, they usually start fruiting mid september, even last year when it was dry as all hell they were fruiting before now...

Hmm... well we have had some seriously messed up weather this year, so anything could happen.
Im in mid somerset, near cheddar gorge, up on the hills, perfect place for all types of mushrooms.

kaal-kopje:
the primary distinction i use to differentiate semilanceata from strictipes is the stipe. while old semilanceate seem to be able under some circumstances to become brittle in the stipe as they age and begin to decompose, P. strictipes has a brittle stipe while it is still firm, and seems ime to be so through all stages of maturity. this differentiation seems to work for me, though for all practical intents, i find little need to make any. it's of curiosity alone that i have been interested on this count.

thanks for that tip canid i only recently found out that i have been picking at least 2 different ps. species in the past years thanks to cactu and others on the shroomery i began paying more attention to details
for example in this picture from 2 years back mushroom 4,9 and 11 in my hand are strictipes and not semilanceata i now believe (no 9 also has a brittle stem as you can see )

this picture from last year; on the left semilanceata and on the right another psilo?. maybe strictipes, maybe something else?

i found these two recently, clearly psilo's but what species? coprophila? strictipes? or perhaps semilanceata after all?

i'm getting curious too perhaps i should start saving for a microscope

on washington state's olympic peninsula i was finding P. semilanceata, P. strictipes and what was either P. fimetaria or sierrae all in one common meadow. part of this meadow had been used briefly as a pasture for the community's goat.
btw: i got my scope, a nice AmScope binocular compound for medical/veterinary applications for about USD $300. i couldn't be more pleased with it.
