To birth or not to birth...

I have had these jars for 2 weeks now, to the day. They are almost 100% colonized, some of them have about half of their bottom covered, the rest are colonized all but the bottoms. Is it a bad thing to let them sit in the jars for too long? Will they eventually run out of fresh water and drown in their own piss? I plan to dunk for 12 hours, would this not be feasible if the bottom substrate is exposed? I now face a decision and I could use some advice. Thanks.

I guessing you have BRF, PF tek jars?????? If that is the case, try turning them upside down and don't birth them until they are fully colonized.

I am using BRF PF Tek style cakes with ramsey seals. I turned them upside down for a few days, tapped the cakes to get a little space on the bottom and flipped them back upright. The cakes still have some breathing room at the bottom of the jar now, about 1/3rd inch.

I agree turn them upside down and see what happens. If not dump it cut off the non colonized part and move on. Its very risky and contams could happen but there you have it.

yup, give it some more time, i had the same problem with 1 cake, i eventually birthed it and cut of a slice of the bottom that had notcolinised, but discovered that the middle was also not fully colinised.
I dunked it for 24 hours anyway and into the fruiting chamber in 2 days it had colinised that bit now. phew that was lucky but dooo not recomend it. I think though that i had disenfected my work area complelty (entire kitched with bleach and detol and oust) which helped.
