so anyone who wants to grow cacti under artificial lighting... i thought id show wot can be achieved with a 600w hps.
these two pics were taken 7 months apart.
Pic #1 - 28th february 2007.

Pic #2 - 28th september 2007.

A. supposed t. peruvianus, 6" tall in Pic #1, 13" tall in Pic #2.
B. 5 x l. williamsii, 3cm diameter in Pic #1, 4.5cm diameter in Pic #2.
C. l. williamsii grafted on t. pachanoi, 4cm diameter in Pic #1, 5.5cm diameter with 4cm pup in Pic #2. as u can see, that particular graft pupped straight out of the aperical meristem.
these plants havent seen any natural light at all this year, and they have had a months rest/drought period between shots also. only a single application of liquid cactus fertiliser in that time (half strength) refer to thermo/hygrometer for typical growth conditions. currently running the light @ 15/9.

Hey,hey
How far away you keep the lightning from Lophs? I was just wondering as I thought about planting the trades seeds and have my main light source (400W MH) at around height of 2 meters from floor (where it would be easiest to have the lophs in)..
Amazing cacti as been stated here tons of times and the Lophs seem to grow pretty fast aswell!
PS. Soon you'll get your rating aswell

keep your seedlings well away from the hardcore lighting, 2 metres sounds ok to start with but possibly still too close if they are directly underneath it... u have to use trial and error, when seedlings turn red/purple u will know they are too close...
my light is approx 1 metre above the bench. my seedlings are on the other side of the room, approx 2.5m away and not directly under the light.

she is growing an inch every 10 days took her a while to get rooted and break out of dormancy as you can see by the line near the middle but now she is in a 5 gallon pot and increasing in growth rate.

great, growing tall but terribly skinny, id expect those bridgesii's to be thicker at that height... thats the trouble with growing trichs under lights, its only good up to a certain height...
