I picked up a Infrared Thermometer at radioshack today for 50.00 dollars. It's small, good size lcd, o-400 degrees, has a hold button, 3-12 inches spacing needed from source...
So i i know it will work when i boil the water but what about when pcing ? I thought RR had told me it would if you aim the IR thermometer at the rubber gasket if your pc has one... mine does its not big but it has one. also, my pc has one of those metal buttons that pop when 15psi is hit... didnt know that till after i got the IR hermometer... Even though i know this now, i am gonna still use it to see how much on the money i can get to that sweet spot and mark it so that way i can eliminate chance of error like i have already...

I read the original thread this morning and was a bit confused at why you would need an IR thermometer for Pc'ing. I still don't know why you would need it. I have one, but I use it for ambient room temperature readings and incubator temperature readings. Remember that an IR thermometer reads surface temperatures. The best you could do to read temperature while pressure cooking is to aim the laser at the point where the top lid meets the cooker itself. But the question still remains, WHY? Pressure and temperature are related. Most pressure cookers will go to 15psi. The one's I'm accustomed to have 3 little rings you either add or remove to adjust the required pressure. 1 ring=5psi or 228 degrees F. 2 rings=10psi or 240 degrees F. 3 rings=15psi or 250 degrees F. All that remains at standard sea level. You have to trust your pressure cooker.

I've got one of them ir thermometers too and love it! So either way I would recommend you too keep it. I use mine almost every day. Perfect for measuring heated objects such as needles or razors (after you've sterilized them), and also for incubator temperatures. You can probably even use it as a fever thermometer by sticking it in your mouth or some place else... :P
Great thing!
