Can i refrigerate spawn?

i got a jar that shot ahead of all the other jars by a about a week or 2.
can i stick it in the refrig and take it out when the others are done?
or will that make it want to fruit? (will this matter? it will revert back to colonization process once the mycelial network is destroyed, no?)
thanks!

Putting it in the dark is going to do nothing to halt growth. That's where it was supposed to be during spawning in the first place!
Anyway, You should be able to put it in the refrig, or you could just let it wait, particularly if it is grain. I have left fully colonized grain for a couple of weeks with no problem at all.

did you have an incubator?
mine are at room temperature so they might be more prone to fruit.
can anyone else offer their experiences? can i refrig, just wait?

If they have been colonizing at room temperature, you don't have to wory about them fruiting. It takes a few other variables to trigger pinning. Mainly fresh air exchange. Then comes temperature, humidity, and exposure to light. Putting them in the fridge will bring mycelial growth to a slow standstill 32 - 40 degrees. I would just leave them alone in the dark until the rest catch up. No harm done in "over colonization".

i would say refrig if you really worried about it
but like it's been said it'll be fine, if it's not exposed to light, it won't pin, but it doesn't take much light at all..
the only prob i see with putting it in the fridge is, how long will it take it to get back to it's job after it's gone dormant
maybe put it back in the incubator a day or two before your others are finished
i don't reccomend the fridge for storing much though.. fridge = nasty

you can refridgerate spawn, yes, just make SURE , with absolute certainty, that it doesn't freeze.

Just because some of us are "New" to the shroomery doesn't mean that we're new to cultivation.

For a couple of weeks, simply leave the jar at room temperature. I regularly store jars on a shelf for a month after full colonization if I'm too busy to use them, and there is no degeneration at all. I recommend against incubators unless your house is very cold, and in addition, there is absolutely no reason to keep colonizing jars in the dark. Normal room light has no effect on colonizing mycelium, either good or bad. RR
