How common are they?

Yo, just wondering how common people believe magic mushrooms are in the wild. I havn't found any mushrooms on my few ventures into the wildnerness, but some people seem to find them all the time. Just how common do you think mushrooms are? Do you expect to find a batch of them upon setting out on a hunt? Or is finding magic shrooms, or even a mushroom of any sort, an enlightening experience?
...and what kind of feeling do you experience when you find a batch of active mushrooms? This can help answer my other question, e.g, rare occurence = excitement and joy, common occurence = mild happiness.
Would be interesting to know, as I'm not too keen spending too much time getting intimate with nature if my chances of finding them are slim! Nothing against mother nature, of course...
What do you think?
Cheers, mate

That's not too true FatBluntz! For example Ps. Cyanescens and Azurescens are actually quiet rare in the wild, though since they've introduced to urban areas with a lot of parks and wood chips beds that are refilled almost every fall, they tunred out to be very common in those habts. It's just woodlovers need woodchips to grow and since nature doesn't produce them too often, they are not that common.

I meant magic mushrooms of any kind, as different species grow in different parts of the world at different times, right? So if you set out on a hunt in the correct habitat at the correct time of year (such as cow shit in the fields around spring/summer here in Queensland ), how high could I expect my chances to be?

You could spend weeks looking in the wrong areas and find nothing, or half an hour in the right areas and find tonnes.

The chances of finding them are pretty good if you know what to look for exactly, where to look for exactly and when to look for it exactly. But since other people already told you, it's nothing new

Oh you're in QLD...
You can do your best to get all your variables right, (time, place, weather) but if you haven't found any before, expect to still do a fair bit of searching. All you can do is get the variables as best you can.
Once you find the first batch it'll quicken considerably.

If you are not willing to spend a lot of time learning and looking, then you're right, you are not cut out for this sport. I get great satisfaction from learning and hunting. So do most hunters I'm sure. But if you are just looking to walk out your door and pick up some shrooms like going to the market, it probably aint gonna happen. Besides your chances are only slim if you don't know what to look for and where. Once you learn then you greatly icrease your chances of finding some.
Just this morning I was at a park and crossed paths with some indigenous park dwelling humans. The female yelled out "if you're looking for mushrooms, you aint gonna find any....you'll find them but they're not the right kind" I just smiled and kept looking. As I was leaving she said "did you find anything" and I said "a couple" then with great excitement in her voice she said "what did you find?". I just smiled some more and walked away. Point is, they lived in the park and had no clue what was just beneath their feet.
