Mason jars?

I'm sure this gets asked a lot but I checked the FAQ and it only mentioned bags allowing for evaporation so I had to make sure. On askerowid.com, an answer to some question about shroom storage said that anything that doesn't allow oxygen to come in contact with the shrooms (ie. a mason jar) would allow the shrooms to keep for years. Now, I'm not growing them myself so I'll be picking them up from a friend, and I won't be using them until maybe Christmas, so this is all just a "buy them now in case I can't later" thing. Of course, it all hinges on this statement that mason jars are like the godsend of shroom-users. True, or not quite?
NVM, I found this: http://www.shroomery.org/6249/Dry-Ice-Mushroom-Storage
Is that all there is, no other solutions? It's not bad, I'm just wondering.

I think if you have the tool to pump out the air to create a vacuum, completely dried mushrooms should keep

Where do you buy dry ice though? Something tells me they don't stock it at Home Depot.
Would potency keep as well?

Most science supply stores will have dry ice stocked or will be able to order it for you. Check the phone book and give them a call.

if you talk to local butchers, they usually let you know when they get a shipment, and they'll just give it to you. just say it's for a keg party or something.

Dry mushrooms sealed in vacuum bags will last for at least a decade. RR

If the dry mushrooms are within my reach, it doesn't matter what you seal them in... they won't last five minutes.

Where could you find good vacuum bags at? I was looking on Target but all I can find are these Space Bags taht get really poor reviews, plus they're the size of shirts and that sort of thing.

you'd probably need to buy the whole FoodSaver setup.
my friend grows bud and he says that if you get zip-lock bags and just suck all the air out of it, the bud stays good for a year or two.

I second that! I have some killer bud from over a year ago in a food saver bag. I take a pinch here and there, and it's like i bought it 10 minutes ago.

If I had the money, sure. But with no job and only $150 to my name, that's a big no go. Damn. So it looks like dry ice and a mason jar then, eh? Or would you just use a regular vacuum to suck the air out of a ziplock bag, then store it in the basement or something? And would you keep the shrooms in the bag before or after vacuuming (or whatever)?

in ziplock bags they have kept without noticable loss of potency to me for months.. if storing them for more than a year i would drop cash on a way to preserve them.

Go by a thrift store or a goodwill, they usually have a couple of food-saver vacuum sealer things. I picked mine up at a thrift store for $5 and got 2 roles of the plastic to make the bags for $3 -$4 at walmart. These places usually have the sealers, humidifiers (at leas 2 in any store I have been to), jars, and other stuff ......... but no fu#king PC!

If you get a mason jar REALLY hot (212), and put dry shrooms in and close the lid you will get a vacuum seal, though not a really strong one... but it will last. Hope this helps.
