Worth waiting?
    #7460430 - 09/27/07 01:52 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I knocked up 7 rye jars about 3wks ago w/spore syringe... Malabar. I took the advice to shake at 25, 50, and 75% colonization from the "Rye to Spore Print" tek... something I shouldn't have done. The last time I shook they were at 75%, and looking great. It's been almost a week and they show little to no signs of recovery. The temp is good, no light, etc

I have plenty of LC... should I just dump those and start anew, or be patient and hope they all of a sudden recover real quick? Thanks for your opinions!

Oh yeah... I knocked up 14q jars with LC 'o' Treasure Coast... and treated them the same. They are kicking ass and taking names... I cased them today. They were all (malabar and tc's) done within 2 days of each other. Woot!

It's your call. If it were me, I would spawn to compost outside. But temps and humidity are perfect where I am right now. You could use as spawn, but If you are not at 100% colonization, you risk contams. However, if you leave them to recover, they may or may not continue growth.

Yeah I wish the temp/humidity here was good... but it's starting to get colder, and more dry. Sure is beautiful seeing the colors change this time of year... but... fuck it. It's not really a waste to go ahead and try. And I have some used soiless in a pile by my back porch. This will be interesting!

The longest I'd consider letting a rye grain jar go is about two weeks before they've made their way into my most active compost pile (i don't allow volunteers to colonize, lol).

Coincidentally, while we're on the topic, I'm soaking grains tonight for another patch because several jars I knocked up last week aren't thriving. No point in even waiting, I knew the multispore syringe was dubious - looked as if the spores got a little nutes in them "somehow" over the last couple months. Instead of spores there was wispy myc floating, was curious to find out how depleted it was.

...and it was. lol.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
