FC Perlite with Bubble Wands?

i read up on some FC teks and saw that there was a method of using geolite or lave rocks along with 2 bubble wands at the bottom of the FC. I was wondering if i can use perlite instead and the set the bubble wands under so it would bubble. If i'm not mistaken the bubble wand is used for air exchange and to increase humindity? so if i had the perlite bubbling slighty from underneath, would that work?

The bubble wands are used to splash water over a large area onto the lava rocks. You will not accomplish this efficiently with no wands.

Impeach....If not mistaken, I think he was asking if he could just use perlite instead of using the lava rocks. I believe he's still planning on using the wands.
Mushie.... But, to answer your question, you can use perlite but the preferred method from the tek is to use lava rocks or the geolite. GL

if you go that route, put the air puimps on a timer. i just had the problem of not having enough humidity with running my pumps 24/7. i just put them on a timer and have the pumps run for 30 min every 3 hours. so far ive had 99% humidity.....

Perlite would work, but I'd imagine not as well. The finer the stone, the less splash effect you will likely have (extrapolate the fineness to the point of being sand, where you have no splash effect).
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

oh.. no problem impeachme. i was just trying to figure out some method with perlite and not having to fan them. but if lava rocks work fine, i'll just use lava rocks. but after doing some reading, some people said algae grows on those lava rocks and might be a problem? i have no clue. what are your guys' recommendations? just use straight perlite with a pump? oh yah one more thing. how much air is your pump pumping into the tank? instead of a timer i might just think of getting a smaller pump?

drill holes in the fc. No need to filter them other then maybe milipore tape. Perlite with a foil pan or foil peices with the cakes on them. FAE is accomplished by piping in an air pump, and co2 is exhausted out the holes. You could run the air pump into a cup of water in the FC. I dont use peroxide anymore. 1-2 drops of iodine per gallon works longer and better for me. Cheaper two and less bottles to store. You can measure the area of your FC and get the square ft, and the pump should say how much its blowing. Youll have to convert from gallons too ft.
your on the right track. Soon youll have plenty of drugs to eat.
