Cobweb mould :(
    #7458661 - 09/27/07 02:12 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

hey,
I know this is a contamination forum question, but no-one's browsing it at the moment. So i think i have cobweb mould on the very top of my cakes... they're starting to knott and almost pin, but the top of one cake in particular in the right light the growth is very 'fluffy' and definately an off grey. Under bright light it looks white though. Yet still fluffy. What should i do? should i spray them with pure peroxide... will that get rid of the cobweb... should i fan like crazy?... should i mix a 10:1 of peroxide, water? ... what? :frown: I can't get pics at the moment, coz my friggin camera's playin up.

Cobweb isn't fluffy, it's airy. It looks like an old mans hair.

hey.
why would my cakes ontop (on the sides they're fine, very rhizomorphic, and bright white) but ontop of all, but one in particular the "mycelium" if that's what it is, is grey in color... and looks really strandy, type thing... like hair (about a quarter inch long) now that you mention it. I sprayed the cakes where it is (ontop) with 10:1 h202 until they're wet. Hopefully that will fix it?... i havn't really been looking on the contam forums. any ideas what to do?.... i dont see how i coulda got it... my cakes were fully collonised, and i've been fanning like 8 to 10 times a day?... any advice or whatever would be very appreciated. thanks.

It sounds like you have healthy cakes. Don't douse them with peroxide, unless necessary. Can you get photos??

Cobweb looks kinda like thin carpet fuzz.

Sometimes healthy cakes discolour slightly.

I tried to get like 20 photos of it. Looking today (After spraying a 10:1 peroxide) it seems to be much beter, the flash on my camera seemed to keep making everything look white. Anyway, you can still see somewhat on the top, where i think there may be some cobweb?...

i can see the rhizomorphic mycelium on the sides and what looks like knotts?... but ontop in one section it just looks fluffy imo?.. Thanks in advance for any opinions.
