ID Request from imaginary79 - Part 1
    #7456295 - 09/26/07 04:04 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I found these growing in my lawn after a wet and damp day. I live in the Midwestern U.S.

They were really slimy when I picked them. They smell like something you'd buy at the store, but I'm a newbie at this stuff.

Doesn't look too promising to me. Any clues? Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Slippery Jack bolete to me. Suillus luteus. Good to eat, though no activity. Anyone confirm?

Thanks for the info.

Well, now that I think about it, it was growing right under a pine tree — which is very characteristic of this species.

From what I've read, maybe it's a Suillus granulatus, but the difference doesn't seem very significant.

It is a Suillus for sure.

I think all Suillus is edible, but cut off the slime.

Beautiful spore print!
