I just received my spores, yayyy. Couple of quick questions. 1. i am sterilizing by boiling my jars. Is it ok if i boil for more than 1 hour i want to be extra sterile. So far ive kept everything quite clean cleaned all my working surfaces, tools, jars, almost everything except the substrate ahah with straight rubbing alcohol. 2. I punched three holes in each lid. even tho i have already put my holes in the lid will it matter where i put them. they are kind of in the center about 1.5cm from the edge. 3. is oven inoculation a worthwhile procedure?

i'd clean everything with bleach too.
i did more than an hour when i was just boiling jars. but seriously, get a PC.
no, it doesn't really matter where you put the holes. aim for the edges though, so you can tell if it starts growing. and one word of advice with the lids...don't put them on way too tightly. it can be a BITCH getting them off.
personally, i like oven tek. make sure your area's clean, ALL the a/c or heaters are turned off for 30mins prior, oust, lysol, bleach, oust again, and you'll be straight. good luck!

the oven tek is a crock! that doesnt work!
you want 4 holes on the edge of your jar lids. that way you can innoc through 4 holes and they will colonize faster.
an hour of boiling is fine. but after you put your sub into them. there is really no need to boil them before hand because you will be boiling them anyways.
you dont need to use bleach for anything.
make yourself a makeshift glovebox (around 10 bones) if you want to be safe while innoculating.

from what i've heard, bleach is better at killing off spores of any mold that contaminates, plus the more ways you clean the better off you'll be...but yeah, it's probably overkill.
gloveboxes are awesome, though a bit awkward to work with.
i like oven tek... i don't think it could do any harm...

so they have been sterilizing for about 1 1/2 hr now i am going to remove them put the second batch on wait for the first to cool completly. im not planning on doing this but what happens if you cool jars and substrate in the fridge after they have cooled of a bit?

I do that to decrease the time between sterilization and inoculation. It works fine for me. I let the jars cool on the counter for 30-60 minutes first and then put them in the fridge.
