Do big jars make big mushrooms?
    #7455028 - 09/26/07 09:20 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I used large jars and i'm birthing them now. The cake is pretty huge. Will it make larger mushrooms or will it just fruit the same but with more flushes?

It COULD mean larger mushrooms but it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be bigger. As to flushes, just because it is bigger doesn't mean it's going to flush more. Just do it all right and they'll be a size enough to make you happy

well i've never grown anything BUT large cakes so i won't say for sure

but i do know that my pint sized cakes shrank to the a size small enough to easily fit into a half pint jar before finishing

so i would expect you could get larger mushrooms aswell as more flushes from a larger cake
most people don't like them because they believe it's too slow or cause contams
as long as you flip them around 75% colonization, they make a comeback

One of the most important factors that is going to determine the size of mushrooms, besides genetics and all that stuff, is water! Mushrooms are mostly water. If your cakes are light and not much water is in them, chances are you're gonna get small mushrooms. That's why it is recommended to dunk after birthing and between flushes.

Mycology (from the Greek μύκης, meaning "fungus") is the study of fungi, their genetic and biochemical properties, their taxonomy, and their use to humans as a source for tinder, medicinals (e.g., penicillin), food (e.g., beer, wine, cheese, edible mushrooms) and entheogens, as well as their dangers, such as poisoning or infection.
