FC/cakes Questions

my cakes are a few days away from birthing, but id like to go ahead and rinse my perlite, and put it into my FC to make sure my humidity and temps are going to be sufficent.
will my FC dry out too much b4 i put my cakes and casings in?
are these 100% theyre my most colonized jars...i plan on takin about 6 of them(if theyre ready) and casing
first:Golden Teacher second:Koh Samui third:Puerto Rican
and the half colonized pics are of one Koh that is dormant? whats the deal with her? all the rest (20 more jars) are almost as colonized as the others

perlite holds high humidity for at least 3-4 months. its good to hav that stuff ready before hand anyways.
is this your first grow???

AWESOME. good to know, ill get it ready right now.
yes, first. using RR shotgun FC tek.
whats ur opinion on the cakes, can i crumble a few Koh, or Puerto Ricans and go ahead with a casing layer. then cover and incubate while i wait for the rest of the cakes to catch up....or wait some more(20 days since inoculation)\
btw, my fc is on the floor, but i have the doorstops that stick on a wall to keep the handle from cracking the sheetrock, all along the bottom holding it about an inch off my concrete floor. i did this because i figures it will be bringing nice cold fresh air into my FC, but im a lil concerned it might suck up contams off the floor, or not have enough air flow....thoughts/suggestions?

IMO a hygrometer shouldnt take that long to correctly read the RH ,,how many inches of perlite?? also you are asking for problems having the FC so close to the ground..I beleive the stats say at least 12" from the floor is the whole hydro unit in the FC or just the sensor??
i did this because i figures it will be bringing nice cold fresh air into my FC, but im a lil concerned it might suck up contams off the floor, or not have enough air flow....thoughts/suggestions?
you dont want cold fresh air, just fresh air ...the temp in the FC should be optimal..room temp.is the norm

i have btwn 4-5inches of perlite(is it possible i drained it too much? i dont think i did, because when i was done putting all the perlite in, it drained a little out of the bottom(like 4 fl oz maybe)
higher up it gets into the 80's.
and yes the whole hygrometer is in the FC
i can only bring it off the ground another 7" max
and the humidity is up to 78% now
my girls bringing over some new spray bottles, ill try misting in there, but i was hoping with the shotgun FC i wouldnt have to mist for humidity
RR where are you at to give an answer to end all speculation...
thanks everyone so far also, hopefully we can get the bugs ironed out, i wanna get something birthed by the end of the weekend

okay your fc should be at least a foot off the ground.
you cant drain your perlite to much (unless you blow dry it or something) you dont want any standing water in your perlite.
it sounds like you have the right amount of perlite
since this is your first grow i would just dunk and roll your cakes and fruit as is until you get your feet wet and wait for spawning, casing and such until your ready to try grains but thats up to you.
get an analog hygrometer! from your local smoke shop. i gurantee i picked up a nicer one cheaper than what you payed for that one. oh and make sure u can calibrate it.
if you have your 4-5" of rinsed well drained perlite your rh should be in the ninetys. dont believe that digi hygrometer.

fuckin $20 digi is lyin to me huh?
im gonna kill him!
i hope its that simple, ill pick up an analog somewhere. i know that bcuz its the shotgun tek, its supposed to look dry in there, but it looks really freakin dry! damnit! i dont even have birthed cakes yet and im failing....WHYYYYY
im gonna case these cakes tho. not all of them, but some. not spawn to bulk, just crumble and case rather. i can get it 8-9" off the ground max. ill just keep the ground around it very sterile, and ill put down a clean painters tarp or something.

ok, well i just misted inside the FC, and the humidity spiked to 87% within the minute...i hope i dont have to mist, i work too much of a crazy ass schedule to fan and mist numerous times a day!
and it that just slow colonization on the one cake from my pics, or is it a tard cake? thats after 20 days.

oh yea you should really take that foil off the tops of those jars! it will speed up your colonization. 20 days seems like a long time for some of those jars to be only 50-60% colonized.
you have the top verm layer right???

yeah, but the jars got rattled around so much when they got shipped im affraid a lot of the dry very has made its way down the sides. i took the lid off one to smell it the other day, and there wasnt much vermiculite barrier in it.
should i birth a few of my fullest, and dunk them?
im just worried about my RH

I would wait at least 1 week after you see full colonization to birth 'em. You'll get MUCH nicer flushes this way.

yeah, i just opened one up, and smaked it out, and it had patches that werent colonized, so i put it back into the jar, filled it with water, and stuck it in the fridge. im just gonna see what happens with this one, but heres what the tops of all of them look like.
like i said, they got jumbled around a lot in the shipping, and i lost most of my verm barrier....i think....either way, its starting to colonize....

sometimes that happens... why did you add water to your jars? the water content should be fine if you ordered them pre made... i dont know how much luck yor going to have with this grow..

just ONE cake, the one i opened and removed, and rinsed under the faucet. thats the only one i submerged back in its own jar, the rest i left alone when i saw how this one looked.
i ran to the cigar shop and bought an analog hygrometer, and its reading less than my digi, which still only reads high 80's. please someone help me with this...wont matter how my cakes look, or what im doing wrong to them, if i cant get a decent FC going.

update
came home today, and RH was at 81%, misted the hell out of it, and it reached its all time high of 93%. now i did the shotgun tek so i could hopefully avoid misting and fanning, but its looking like its now my only option...

try a monotub bud, a lil less work, just let her colonize then fruit that bitch i've noticed that sometimes my verm layer gets colonized sometimes not. my theory is that the mycelium is hungry and healthy. that or its a way to see if its fully colonized inside

RH Update!
bought two new hygrometers to check the accuracy of my digital that was reading very low. One new onereads low like the first one (around 77-79%) and the other new one reads 99%...and its not stuck on 99, because this morning after not misting all night, it still read 92%....? what gives?
