Handy Tip - Tracking a possible contaminate...
    #7454628 - 09/26/07 07:00 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

There is absolutely nothing new about this but as it hasn't come up in a while and with the recent questions on contaminates, I thought I'd repost it.

---

If you think your jar has a contaminate, grab a dry-erase marker and circle it making the circle only a little larger than the actual suspected contaminate...and perhaps jot down it's discovery date on a little bit of masking tape nearby.

It makes it a whole lot easier to track if it's growing and how quickly when you have a metric (the unchanging size of the circle) against which to gage it.

Recently found a green spec in one of my grain masters and figured I'd share...

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
