keep or chuck? (pan cyan on grain) **PICS**
    #7454227 - 09/26/07 01:11 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

This is day 8 of pan cyan lc on grain with cow poo and straw PCed 2 hrs. Loosely based on this grow log but using jars instead of bags.

4 other jars went a light green shade so were chucked. These are white/grey. Looks weird but I've never put poo and straw in jars before so not sure how it should look. The poo has darkened the colour of the grain and maybe the myc too.

What do people think? Keep or chuck?

It hard to see in my jars, its almost like a invisible contam i duno but when you shake it you can see the residue on the glass and myc normaly wont do that.

i don't have any residue on the glass but the myc isn't very white. Though I have heard pan cyan myc never looks very strong.

Pan cyan mycelium is whispy and light, so is often mistaken for contaminants. I wouldn't recommend sterilizing manure or straw. When you get a clean culture, inoculate grains, and then when they fully colonize, spawn them into pasterurized horse manure. Pans do best with a thin substrate, about 1 1/2" thick. Use a thin casing layer too, 1/4" thick.

I would hold on. Wait and see if it turns a different colour or becomes powdery. I have not seen Pan. cyanescens mycelium, but i know it can vary in appearance.
