Digital Scale
    #7453978 - 09/25/07 11:34 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

So, there seems to be lots of digital gram scales out there on the net and through ebay. Some of them look good, and some not so good. The scale I have now is pretty inaccurate and crappy, so I would like to invest in a nicer one (for a fair price).

I'd like it to be very accurate down to at least 0.01g (10mg) up into the few hundreds or so grams. There must be some nice scientific grade ones out there out for a decent price. Any suggestions?

be careful on ebay, I have reason to believe some of them are buying defective scales at basement prices and reselling them. The trick is that they all have lifetime warrentys, but sending it in costs shipping and handling.

thats why you notice they all say "if defective i will replace" when you go to have that done the asshole says "my service center will take care of that for you" and gives you the manufactors website.

Old Will Knott has been in business for ever and has sold many thousands of scales at fair prices and with great customer service. You won't find anything on ebay that he doesn't have at a better price.

http://www.oldwillknott.com/

I'm not affiliated with them. I'm just a happy customer.

Even his cheap scales for cheap bastards like me are worth the purchase, unlike some i've bought on ebay.

You're going to have to spend some money for a decent scale. At least three hundred dollars if you want to measure somewhat accurately to 10 milligrams.

I too will vouch for oldwillknot.com

Both of my scales, .1g and .01g are from him, and they work great.

And 300 dollars is absolutely ridiculous.

I bought my .01 from him for 50 bucks about a year ago.

Yeah, I bet it's a piece of crap too. Have you tried it with a 10 milligram calibration weight? As long as you're not weighing potent psychedelics you should be fine with it.

I use these ones in my analytical chem class that measure to +/- .2 mg. They are a couple thousand dollars though.

I can't afford over a thousand dollars for a scale :frown:
perhaps I'll browse ebay for someone who is giving up a real good one(old model) for cheap.

No, in my opinion it won't. If you can afford to buy the chemicals you can afford to buy a decent scale. I use an Acculab VIC 123.

It's by no means recommended when weighing small quantities, but you can always estimate the error on El Cheapo scales using common and accurately pre-weighed things: coins.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1_cent_euro_coins
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_cent_euro_coins

My 10 euros 100x0.01g weighs accurately 2.30g for 1 cent and 3.05 for 2 cents (-0.3% error).

Not appropriate for measuring certain RCs in the single dose range, but more than enough for bulk. I prefer the solvent method for dosing rather than using expensive don't-touch-me-cos-I-break-myself scales.

Very sexy and accurate.

Best price on the net, too.
